Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

From the coast he traveled south, rounding a mountain and continuing on. His steps led him to this lake - he was thankful for it. Reyes bent his head, drinking the cold waters. Resting his paws after a suitable distance had been given. While he was alert and aware of his surroundings, refusing to be ambushed, he allowed the respite. Briefly.

The man settled near the base of the waterfall for a rest. He lay among the flora and foliage, eyes half-closed and a neutral expression on his features. For all intents and purposes - there was still much to do and see. So many more places to go. The grass tickled his paws idly, and the sun burned his dark coat. It was enough to lull him into peace.

Until a figure snapped into view.

Reyes' eyes opened slowly. He focused on them but said nothing. It was up to them whether to move on or not. If they spotted him, came to him... Well, he'd do his best to be, ah, courteous. He promised nothing, of course.

So she ventured just a little further, just a little North, no longer exploring the space between the woodland and the lake. She chose one, favouring the peaks that held hidden a pool, water so blue and a waterfall to match. Kore had been entranced, pulled forward by the beauty, water, stone and flora alike, unable to turn tail and head home in that moment.

If there were ever a land that might tempt her from her Magick-weaved stone, it might be this. She danced towards the waters edge, the waterfall rushing in her ears and she sighed wistfully, not stopping until the tips of her toes touched the glacier-blue water. Kore exhaled, closing her eyes as she listened, the sounds of nature all around her. In all of her awe, she had yet to notice the figure draped in greys and blacks, nestled within the flora off to her right.

Kore was too enchanted, listening to nature breathe.

He felt it was rude to just sit there. Reyes had every intention of making himself known to the fae woman. He was not a creep, even if his eyes drifted to her - attracted by the movements she made - from time to time. It was like sitting in the same room as another and being unable to ignore them for a long time. Eventually one spoke up. It might as well be him, for he had nothing else to do with his time.

"Hola, señorita."

His deep vocals, quiet, hopefully, drifted to her well enough. He remained where he was, unwilling to walk closer due to potentially startling her. The woman didn't seem to notice him anyway. If she was to ignore him or if his voice did not reach her - it mattered not. Though she was very distracting with her little movements. He couldn't blame her though. He, ah, rarely blamed a woman. Reyes remained quiet after that, content to let the silence drift.

She didn't startle at the voice, the vocals soft in the air. Kore inhaled the crisp air, taking a moment to feel it curl in her lungs before she exhaled, wagging her tail lowly once, twice and then she turned to look at him. A man encased in greys and blacks, nestled comfortably in the flora. A different language had been on his tongue and though she spoke more than just English, his one was not one she knew.

"Hello," the little wolf greeted serenely, wondering if he spoke the common tongue. "I did not mean to intrude," she tilted her head to the side as she gazed at him evenly, "it is just so serene here. Touched by the magic of nature." The rushing waterfall was tickling her senses, her shoulders down with ease and relaxed comfort. Yes, it was quite beautiful here.

"You are fine."

Indeed, he knew English. Or as they called it 'the common tongue' here. Reyes slipped easily back into his native language, feeling gentle security in it. The woman looked at him without fear, or even desire - thankfully. He was tired of strangers sizing him up. He allowed his shoulders to relax somewhat, even if he was not very at ease in the open.

"This place belongs to no wolf" he went on, his deep accent carrying "why should you not enjoy it?" Reyes felt it was idiotic to chase someone away that didn't mean any harm. From what he could glean, the woman respected nature by her tune and words. She didn't seem to be a threat to him either. No, she was just a nymph. Flickering to her origins.

"It was just rude to ignore your presence here; we are both here to relax" He flicked a paw upward, around them to gesture to the beauty "you may join me if you like. I am Reyes." When she was done with her waterfall, she could come closer and relax here. Only if she wanted though. He was not the type to pressure a woman.

Company would be nice though.
