Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The young Rache started to develop further, she could walk better — she could hear better, and speak with short lisps. Yet compared to the adults her words felt silly, and grew fustrated when her words came out unlike how she thought, and didn't enjoy it so. She didn't speak, without a perfection coming through — and since that was very difficult, the young nightwalker opted to not speak at all for the most part.

She waited, seeing outside the den and the light that came through. Her mother who came and went, and the assumed family.. A concept of packmates she yet knows, that she sees every so often. On occasion the few footsteps that came around — curiosity, was settling within her dark soul on what was out there. Though she wouldn't be able to leave, not without all watching.. But it seemed as if, at night, is when most were rather.. Quiet. The few who weren't, she hadn't seen them around the den — but it was her best bet at the very least, for @Eris would be sleeping, and alongside the littermates.

As the moon crept up and the sky darkened, she arised from her slumber. Carefully, so, was she approaching outside the den.. Her head popped out, but hesitated to go further.

Was it wise to do so? A fog settled through, and she couldn't even see the outside even if she wanted to. It was, disappointing.

Sleep did not come easy to the pale boy, not as of late at least. His body would burn with an onset fever, though to him there was only a chill even as he buried into his mother's fur. Late as it was, he would only feign the sleep his body desired. Movement rose an ear as one of his siblings squirmed away in the dark of night. Pestilence cracked an eye to see, though he was greeted only by inky black shadows. Frankly, he could care less for the disturbance at this hour as he only wished to drift into a comfortable unconsciousness. However, fate would have other plans.

Curling to try and find a more comfortable position churned his stomach as he suddenly felt an unpleasant wave wash over him. He would only have seconds to scramble to sore paws as the boy broke way for fresher air, half tumbling into his unseen sibling's side before bursting through the den's maw. Pestilence squared off in the cool breeze, head hung low as he began to hack until the contents of his stomach were spewed on the dirt between his feet.

The seedlings of the dirty deed were flourishing, and before she knew it, she needed to garner more moss in the form of baby-proofing the makeshift bassinet. Edging the sides, in an orderly manner, and enabling a bigger area for them to hobble around precariously. But her efforts were fruitless it seemed when barricading the entrance when the blanket of night entombed the world. A daughter was granting her own access into the openness of the dark forest; a pass that Eris had not allowed any of them thus far, not until they were old enough. She wanted to shield them from the terrors that lurked within the Nightwalkers and their kingdom for as long as she could.

'Ah ah ah', she began, berating the daughter. 'Lil black raven, you aren't allowed out there just yet'. And she rose from the comforter she had bedded for the whelps. Moving within a stride that amounted to several for her daughter. And Eris brushed her nose at the front of the girl's face, sweeping encouragingly to move back inside.

But with distraction, came her son, hurtling past and exiting to let her witness another unfortunate ailment the child bore. And she then too followed, head peeping out of the confined den and lapping up at the fresh vomit, licking her lips as though it were a delicacy before cleaning her ill son. 'There, there, my booboo'.

It was never-ending it seemed, the sickness, the sniffles, the sores that grew aggressively by each day. She was a slave to his health. But she could not get on top of each one as they passed on to the next. And she made a promise she would seek the herbologist of the pack if things mercilessly progressed.

she blamed her brother. If he hadn't stirred their dame up, perhaps in time she would've properly gone out. she looked behind, an eye toward him and eris — just before she sneezed, and then was encouraged back within. even if she went out and blamed her litter-mate, the young rache could see beyond their den was nothing but current shadows and fogs.. thus, willingly ventured back in.

away from the pest, as she then sneezed once more and rubbed her nose.

His throat burned at the taste as his mother soon came to willingly clean his mess. The acidity on his tongue curled his lip at the thought of willingly lapping the contents as he shied a glance from their caretaker to the sister he had plowed by in his escape. He couldn't read her, not that he was sure he ever could yet, as she quickly turned away to the confines of their den.

The boy knew he had broken a rule in his rush, but the outside felt more comforting in his moment of need. His paws would linger knowing soon he'd be cowed back to the stuffy confines, pressed between siblings who gnawed or kicked. It was only a moment, but one he would savor as the cool breeze caressed him before he too dragged his paws back to the den.

Not long after she had perfected her cleaning ritual on her son, did her head snap at the sound of another sneeze from her daughter. Another one. She groaned inwardly, terrified she was now failing in her duty and skills as a mother. She knew she would have to seek a medic soon. Or else her borns would perish swiftly from the common cold.

Eris pouted, 'Not you too', she muttered, unknowing if they could yet understand her since their communication was lacking. The mother then flew to her daughter, a long blue tongue eagerly licking at their snout, hoping her caressing saliva would help rid the ailment.
