Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The size got away from me a bit but the idea of exploring this lovely location was too much to resist. Anyone's welcome to come and join me! <3

Since waking in the mountains, Via had been left feeling exposed and vulnerable to her surroundings. There was a steadily growing tension in the air that set her fur on end, and while she couldn't see the clouds roiling in the distance due to her poor eyesight, the constant scent of a gathering storm set her as on edge as everything else.

A long, careful trek over the course of several days finally found Via safely ensconced beneath the canopy once again. The moment the forest closed in around her, a line of tension she hadn't been aware of melted away from her spine, and her steps grew lighter. While it was darker than the terrain she'd navigated until now, and there didn't seem to be a wide variety of color among the plants--thus her vision was poorer than she could ever remember it being--her nose twitched with an abundance of new information.

Wind and rain had less of an effect on the lingering scents as the trees grew denser, and Via began to pause in her trek to noise at various plants, learning of the flora that grew and the fauna that lived nearby. She quickly discovered the scents of evergreen, as well as a muskier fungi close to the ground. Rabbits, squirrels, elk had passed through at one point or another, and she thankfully managed to catch the particularly stinging scent of a colony of fire ants before she walked straight over it, neatly circumventing a potentially painful afternoon.

She had spent most of the day exploring, nosing at trees and tentatively licking the caps of a few mushrooms to see if their spores were strange in any way. They didn't appear to be; overall, it was an entirely normal if not particularly tasty fungi taste.

She came across a slow-moving stream, trickling gently through the forest, and tracked her way along it mostly by ear until it widened into a shallow pool. More of a puddle, really, and likely a result of recent rains that would narrow back into the creek's usual bed soon enough. For now, it was enough of a still pool that Via felt more comfortable drinking from the edge. Less likely to get hit in the face with fish she couldn't see caught in a current, when the water was still.

It was as she lifted her head, licking her chops of the last few droplets, that she finally saw what was special about the mushrooms--and at first she didn't understand that that was what she was seeing. Blinded eyes opened, and colors she was not familiar with seeing glow were suddenly drifting across her vision, blurring the shadows even further until she could see nothing but the spots of blue, green and yellow motes, steadily rising along with the mushroom's scent as they released their spores into the night air.

"Ah...beautiful." She couldn't help her smile, head lifted and yet tilted at an odd angle, staring into nothing as she let the colorful lights come to her on the breeze.

Finding herself within a strange land, her adventurous soul lit up. A new determination, to explore all that there was within the land itself ; and fully prepared to meet new individuals. Some came along with her pathway, and the fate of the Goddess that brought them to herself was a pleasant one indeed. Her eyes were blessed with the sight of views she never saw within The Orchid, much less the surrounding lands from her home. By heart, did Miriam know she was far, far away. Unknown though, and worried not for the route back. Destiny, said she was to be here.

The night was coming, and her paws found itself travelling to an evergreen forest. The maiden could hear the sound of running water ; the crickets chirping and the dying sounds of the birds singing. The sun was slowly glistening downwards, to a faint beauty until eventually, it'd disappear. For some reason she felt unnerved within the area, and thought it was perhaps rest to take a night of cover.. Somewhere, within these forest. A stream was to be looked for, as paws traveled and ears flickered to any signs of so, and finally, approached.

Though before a quench was given, her silver-white view was blessed in a beauty, as now the world itself, seemed to glow. Fireflies were a thought, and yet noticed around were so many mushrooms that released an unknown, a spore to the air as it guided to a lightshow of wonder.. But she was not the first to see, nor' to comment as Miriam turned to the sound of someone saying the same thoughts she so had.

"It is," she agreed with a firm nod, eyes twinkling at the sight, "do you know what this place is called?" though the stranger smelled of none, she wondered if the tall canine was a native.
