Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

He'd organized all the patrols and helped get a few hunting details started. He'd even checked in on the caches which seemed to be well-stocked. Well, that part of his job was done. He busied himself throughout the day by spending time with Quinn, and going on his own patrols... and a nap... that took a bit longer than expected. When he woke it was well into the night and he figured he should probably balance out the day with a bit of guard duty atop the walls.

As he walked towards his post, his mind was wandering. He couldn't get over how well things were going. They had plenty of cats and things were safe here, plus, this place was an amazing spot. Plenty of dens for the cats to have their own as well as positions to see for miles around. It was perfect. Well, except that there seemed to be static in the air. His tail fur would not stay down. He'd groomed it several times only for it to puff up again. Eventually he'd given up and walked around with a frizzed up tail that looked twice as large as normal.

The broad-shouldered tomcat made his way up the tattered steps and sprang up to the top walls. There he sat atop a tall perch and watched the starlit grass below... although his gaze didn't stay down there. It was brought up to dark sky where there was some strange apparitions in the sky! "The fuck?" His eyes widened at the image of the starry wolf, the feline creature, and the horse-like one. What in StarClan's name was this!? They didn't seem to acknowledge him in particular but the land at large below them. Had anyone ever seen such a clear sign of their ancestors as this? What's more... was this even StarClan? Or something even older? He stayed rooted to the spot, staring up in one part terror and one part disbelief.

"Heeyyy.." Emberfrost approached, with somewhat a too relaxed smile. There was a lot happening — but she also couldn't trust her own mind. So many times within a past life she would see stuff that wasn't there, hallucinations and voices that toyed and mentally warped her ; secluded herself away from ThunderClan where even her name represented that, despite saying it was for her toned-eyes. A calmness, taking, for the distance she always would and yet in the new life, tried for a more friendly (lazy) way to enjoy fully.

When she saw what was above — the look of the stars shifting and turning. To creatures she knew and not at the same time, held high in the sky. The stars shifting and moved, where it both was physical and flat at the same time and they walked like true Gods — like StarClan was said to be altogether, and Medicine Cats foretold. But she was no medicine cat or someone who followed StarClan so thoroughly — and thought just perhaps, it was but the constellations itself.

But they continued moving, thundering and hammering, roaring at the tides itself as they gazed down. She thought they looked at her, and she looked back at the stars itself. She saw Moosebellow, looking in the distance, "do you see those?"

Emberfrost prayed dearly it truly was the sky going to chaos, and not her mind.

Edgewise was one of the felines who felt an undeniable urge to howl, releasing a strange cry into the night as the static-ridden air bid him to do so. The sensation was disturbing and electrifying, as though something was forcing his very soul to express itself. He had been working diligently on one of the hunting details organized by Moosebellow, and had brought back two healthy coursers for the food pile; the third bird of the night, a starling, dropped from his mouth with the compelled yowling.

The teal-blue, slightly-crossed eyes of the cat were drawn up to that roiling sky which, or some time, had been dark and stormy. Now... Now there were things there. Visions of some great creatures, looking down from above. The eerie light, and the moon-like glow, dazzled. Edgewise had never seen something so large, so vast, greater even than the mountains, these three being seemed. And they moved! They were alive, somehow!

Edgewise took the starling backup in his jaws and dashed back to the castle proper, and arrived as Emberfrost asked her question. ”Fi fee fem!” he said, his voice muffled by birdfeathers. He dropped his catch, repeated, ”I see them!” he announced more clearly. ”Are they seeing us, too?”
