Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

While he had spent the better of two days inside the Maw, trying to learn the twisting tunnels and dead ends, he had decided on the third day to go out. Draco had woken on the mountain and had yet to see anything of this new world. Everything had been from up high on the mountains, not on the true ground where he could see the trees stretch over him.

His adventure had stopped against a large river. The ground here was soggy, and his feet squelched in the mud. It was not exactly a location Draco was enjoying. With a (painful) curl of his lips, he kicked a paw forward to sling the mud off. Part of him was honestly regretting this little adventure. He should have stayed at the maw with Kyeza.

With an awkward jump and stumble, Draco hopped from stone plate to stone plate until he was on a decently dry spot. It was the first time since entering this cursed wet place. As he sat down on the ground, he could taste some blood leaking into his mouth. It had only been a few days since the meeting with his new god, and the wounds easily opened. To anyone that saw him, he probably looked pretty fucked up.

The first thing he tasted was blood.

A small shudder as it invaded his senses, turning left then right in attempt to locate it. The air was positively laced with such things,  and he struggled briefly with an old and familiar hunger. But he staunched himself firmly,  taking a moment to breath. He had promised himself and others he would not return to that point again. So with this in mind,  he decided to live up to his word.

Trotting along, he couldn't help but appreciate the way it felt out here. A small smile despite the facts, a quiver of respect for such vastness.  As he moved he kept a look out for things, taking a moment to carefully pry some moss off a tree. If anything it would be a good way to soak up the wounds. With a mouthful of plants he continued until he stumbled suddenly upon a river. Ears flung forth in sound of the water, and as he approached the bank he sharply noticed another very helpful plant. Bladderwort. Well wasn't this a nice suprise. He had just enough room left to scoop a few stalks up, and thus he continued.

He was no fool however,  and fully aware that whoever it was might be less then pleased at his sudden offerings.  He trailed the stench of the man carefully,  navigating every twist and turn. It took a good second but eventually he spied a multi toned beast just doing their best to stay dry. And oh what a state they were in. Frowning slightly at the state of them, he inched slowly up and halted just out of reach. Well, here went nothing.

He apportioned himself as quietly as a ghost,  orange eyes burning bright in the gloom. Depositing the plants softly, he uttered a single offering. "I can help, if you want. " braced for rejection,  he avoided holding his breath for the time being.

It had been a while since Draco had gotten to eat long pig. So far he wasn’t exactly sure where Kyeza, his alpha, stood on the meal choice. But with the torn face, Draco hadn’t even been able to entertain the idea of a good hunt. Part of him going out, even if he didn’t realize it, was to find a meal. Maybe he would be lucky.

His ears turned towards the stranger wolf that approached. Draco could smell faintly the scent of different herbs and flowers in the air as he approached. First instinct was to attack, to kill, to consume. But as Draco opened his jaws, a pain stung from his lips, making his eyes squint. It would be too hard to hunt with such pain.

Why?” Why did this stranger want to help him? Couldn’t he see that he was before a monster? Draco could taste the illness in his wounds, though. So far Sheol did not have healers, or at least that he had seen. If he wanted to serve his master, he needed to be top of his game. With some moments passing, Draco finally lowered his head as if in defeat. “Okay.
