Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

hear me speak!

Aching.

What was this feeling? This unknown, foreign feeling. It carved deep within her chest. Drained her of spirit, of mind. A blandness that took the void of life. It was new. It was detestable. It was hatred. It was pain. It was...

Not her.

She had arrived breathless. Awoken feeling drained, not revitalised. And as the moon began to rise form the darkened skies above, the stars peaked against the towering Pines and plush Evergreens.

She was home... but it was not the same.

She was not with them. They were nowhere to be seen.

Abandoned, alone. Forsaken.

The Empress of Ice drew in a breath, it was shaky, sharp that cleared the ache within her lungs. A melancholic twist that burned. Her head uplifted, looking towards the moon. The ache grew deeper, the pain boiled sharper. And in a desperate cry of painful frustration,

Sorina howled for those she had lost.

He observed their childish playing. A faint smile on his face, though tarnished with exhaustion, still loomed on over them with love and warmth. @Vaelithra and @Ordella , prized princesses both, playing as noble children often did. Without care, made of pure whimsy. When he gazed upon their youthful hearts, in a way he saw his own. Him and his brother did play like that as well, at a point in time.

It was knowledge passed to him that the abusive and evil will sometimes pit their victims against each other. He never thought of his father that way before, but the words of a wise sage told him otherwise. A pain wept deeply in his soul at the reminder of it all but, he remained stoic regardless. His face placid and peaceful, trying his best to be a shining beacon of hope- a rock of strength for his litter left without a mother.

Then the song came.

Siren-like in it's nature. The man whipped his head around, eyes staring into the woods with wild interest. It called out in a tone of pure anguish- agony of being alone. And it was hers. Like a moth and a flame, he had heard her light before. Seen how it bounced off cave walls and illuminated the darkness of night. His body rose recklessly, completely abandoning all sense of grace.

He stumbled through the snow, made it but a few steps, but stopped to observe his children again, whom he expected to be staring at him like he was crazy. If they had noticed his movement at all, that is.

It was a bellowing, mournful song. Aimed to strike into the darkness, howling and whispering winds. Echoing through the vastness of hollowed trees. Dare it stave away the creatures that frolicked in the snow, from the smallest hare- to the towering, bellowing Carribou.

And oh, how that heart yearned, pouring song and vice into it, screaming the ache from her heart into the whispering air. And what was this? Dare a tear form over eyes of ice. Dare that porcelain mask crack.

And only when her breath escaped her and mind felt clouded, did she stop.

The tears splashed onto the virgin snows, melting in wake.

Crying. Something new. Sorina did not cry often. She was not a weak, mewling Pup, a damsel. But oh- to mourn him.

Them.

Everything she had built- gone.

Dare the Queen feel just for a moment and then.

The sounds of another.

A seething anger, an exhaustion of what, now?

And then eyes settled.

There, in the moonlight came a figure. So ghostly, bathed in onyx, with eyes of burning cinders, fiery depths of orange.

Perhaps she was dreaming? Had the dizziness overcome her? Plagued her mind?

Her breath suddenly caught. Icy eyes widened. She felt as if jagged shards of ice twisted into her stomach, wrenched and dropped.

She did not hesitate, she did not falter. Oh, no longer a Queen so poised, but burning. Yearning.

Dare her veins run hot.

As she drew closer, closer still, lips peeled back into a snarl, opalescent fangs glimmered in the moon's light. "You."

Are not dead.

Something stopped Sorina in that moment. That moment of anger- it was so profound, so reckless. And as she stared, those tears frosted.

"Alive.."

And oh, that word sounded so foreign, so broken. So hoarse.
