Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Hydra saw the woman from above, but not very clearly. It was only evident that she headed toward the borders, and so the matriarch turned to meet her. Nimbly did Hydra descend from The Nameless Mountain, as if she had half so many years here as the mountain she was born to. A passing thought she did not let linger: did she?

Snow began to fall, and by the time Hydra came to the borders it came down more thickly, whipped around by the growing winds. Curtains of it parted briefly enough for Hydra to take in only some of the picture before her. The woman was not alone.

A cub. Small, and quiet for a child. Was it well taught, or merely exhausted from travel? She could not see clearly the hunger upon them both with the snow picking up to be near blinding. Her voice cut through the elements: “you stand upon Empyreans borders,” and leaving unspoken the question: what do you and your child seek here?

The woman was small, but Hydra remained guarded. She would do what she must should this stranger make any move Hydra did not like that risked the wellbeing of her family. As small as it was now in this place, she would not take any chances. The matriarch was not one to shirk from using her teeth when she must.

there was no one. aqamdax took another step. she must go on. she must find shelter and then food for pup. in her malaise, she did not think of herself. she did not understand that she had become ill, that fever created mirage out of snow.

there was a voice. she stared, fearing it was still only one of the odd images, and clutched pup closely.

but no. no. the storm coalesced and came apart. a woman was there, stern. watching. she had been the one to speak.

aqamdax blinked hazily.

quicksign, frozen hand remembering. my brother and i need shelter.- but the storm covered those small movements of her paw in the gloom, and so it seemed she only stared and said nothing at all.
