Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

His waking was slow, peaceful. Much unlike the ending of his past life. In those moments, there was only pain. And it would never be forgotten. Nor forgiven.

Stretching his limbs with the lack of gracefulness only a burly, scarred man could achieve, he set off without haste, finding no interest in sticking around on this sour shore.

The trees ahead, covered with a thick, pale coat of snow seemed the best cover. That's where he went first, figuring a good place to camp out would bode him well in such an unfamiliar place. There was no telling what sort of shit he'd come across here. Or perhaps even who he'd find. But the world always had an uncanny way of finding new circumstances to bite him in the ass. Whether he deserved it or not.

Bit of a quick one, but here you go @Sorina @Erebus :3

hear me speak!
Home

The whistling winds brought her home. A guiding light that glimmered in the dark. Perfect crystalline white, the routes of the great tree had whispered, calling her home. Pines sprawled out against untouched snowy hills and as she followed the icy river north, the business of her mind quieted.
Home.

Dark nostrils flared to drag in the invigorating comfort she so desperately sought, and yet as the winds carried to her- only glints, foreign smells danced upon her tongue. Immediately, those icy eyes squinted, scowled.

Where had they gone?

In her absence, had they fled? Fled...

Abandoned.

Suddenly anger rose, rose like the heat of a raging fire, not even the snow that curled around her dark paws could quench its thirst. Jaws heavy set with tension that boiled under her skin. What was this feeling? New and unknown to The self-proclaimed Queen of ice, a woman with the perfect façade. Dark violet ears swivelled back and forth as she pushed onwards. Her steps were no longer graceful and eloquent, now became tantrum-esque with every passing moment. Her children.

Her life.

Gone.

Then, another. Cloaked in raven, dare the heart of ice that had shattered upon his absence dare flutter. Dare hope breathe life... and yet blazing orange eyes did not meet her. Instead it was a new face. A stranger.

And despite the numbness that swirled within her, Sorina forced herself back. The Everfrost was hers. Nothing would take that away from her.

You stand at boarders not your own.

Oh those words came out harsh, cutting and as cold as the winds that whistled around them. Her posture straightened, pride and power. She used the pain to her advantage as she neared closer. Broken Her icy gaze fixated on the male.

Please state your intent.

The Empress of Ice had returned home.

A stranger came to face him. A woman, furious. She spoke to him like he beneath her. His lip lifted at that.

“Hell only knows...” he snorted in answer of what his intent may be. Even he didn't know.

“I just woke up here. Mind not biting my tail off?” A snarky thing, but he was always cranky when he'd just woken up.

Silvery eyes appraising the woman, his nose twitched. He hadn't before scented anyone else here—and yet, here she was.

Did that mean there was more to this place than he'd initially thought?

Oh, there was a curl of the lip. The snark that rippled from the man of ebony made a twitch of amusement spark within that icy gaze. For a moment.

Until he spoke of awakening.

So, something had happened. What of her children? Were they all alone?

Her beast…

While those thoughts sprawled an ache within her chest that grew and grew, sprawling through her veins. Yet that perfect porcelain mask remained strong. An indifference reigned as she assessed the man before her. “I see. It seems we have that in common.” And yet…

Why did no one come to greet her?

“My Kingdom resides here.” She offered, taring her gaze away to the Pines swollen with snow, she lifted her head to taste the winds once more.

Nothing.

“You may join me, if you wish. My Kingdom offers wealth to those ambitious enough to take it.” With a twitch of an ear, her gaze rested upon him again.

Would he be worthy enough to take the challenge?

Her kingdom?

His eyes narrowed for a breif moment at that revelation. This didn't quite seem like a place that held a kingdom. Where were the others? But she had just woken too. Maybe she was searching for others like her.

He mulled on the offer, but eventually gave up thinking and offered a shrug of his shoulders. “Not like I have anywhere else to go.” How was he supposed to get out of this damned island anyway? He'd be better off sticking around to see what she was all about. At least here he could finally put his talents to use without being scorned for it.

The chilling winds blew, whistling and whipping around her paws and distorting her perfect raven-tinted violet pelt. A welcome distraction, something to grasp onto. The squeeze of her chest, this new feeling. Unknown and foreign. Something she could not quite pinpoint, or put her paw on. And, as the moments passed, the thick haze in her mind- the weariness did not ease. A thick blanket lay shroud in her mind, weighing her down.

And yet, those icy violets scoured over the man that stood before her. He seemed younger. Defensive. And despite the urge to chase him away- there was no need to. If Haldis was truly gone...

Then she would need to start over.

A shrug. A form of indifference- he had nowhere else to go. So, that head of hers remained uplifted. A slight rise of a brow of his words to accept her offer- indeed, she had anticipated a scoff. A snap back. A comment of if it were true, where were her compatriots?

A small hum rumbled from her throat. "It will be what you make of it."

"My Kingdom does not just reward based on skill, but also loyalty."

Yes, she was done playing pretend to those that would use her. Harm her. Her head slowly turned to the right, eyes searching for home.

This time, it would be right.

"Indeed, the question is... what will you bring to my Kingdom. But most of all."

A pause, as her attention turned back towards him.

"What do they call you?"

It would be what he made of it, huh? Well, firstly, he'd have to see what it was worth.

But when she asked what he was capable of, he was already starting to like her a little bit more. His feet danced subtly in the snow—the movement was really more like stomping.

“I can fight, kill. Teach others to do the same.” It was what he knew, and he was proud of it. Battle and blood was his happy place, in a sense, even as crude as it sounded.

He wasn't a mindless killer, of course. But to be faithful to one, meant he would carry out whatever task they asked. Even if it meant taking a life for a reason to benefit the will of his master.

As for his name, he wouldn't dare offer the one he was given at birth. That was his past and would never again be spoken. “Bane. That's what you can call me.” And nothing else.

He was young. Eager. Reeked of desperation. Had she not been consumed and weighted by these unknown feeling, Sorina would have allowed such pity to roll over her. But instead, her gaze watched as he tapped his paws against the virgin snows, crushing and shaping to compacted ice. Dare a pang in her chest grow. The impatience of youth. Ordella.
“I can fight, kill. Teach others to do the same.”

"Excellent." Time would only tell of such promises. Would he cower and quake under her gaze? Sorina would watch and wait. Indeed, that fire now could be boiling under the skin of the man, it could be put to good use.  "I shall need such skills, when the time comes."

“Bane. That's what you can call me.”

A simple dip of her head. "Welcome, Bane."

She would turn then, slender and sleek, almost feline and gracious in her proclaimed stance as she began to walk. "I am known as Sorina Saxe-Salvatoré."

Queen.

"Let us find home."
