Belenus watched Ries roll onto his back in half fascination, staring at the dirt with trepidation, before he rolled over himself. The sun was crisp above their heads, and he watched an idle cloud drift slowly on the upper atmosphere winds. He tucked his paws against his chest, allowing the moment to settle over him like a warm blanket.
“..you’re right.” It was, surprisingly, nice in the dirt. The cloud, shaped by the wind, maneuvered its fluffy shape into something resembling a misshapen deer. Ries asked if he would teach him again. Belenus turned his head just enough to keep it hovering above the dirt, but still able to look at his new companion.
“It would be my honor.” Above his head, the cloud took on the shape of a swallow, flying away from the pain. He hoped he’d become like that swallow, one day.
