Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Since his change in rank, Ries had not allowed himself time to wander as he had before. The itch was still there, familiar and nagging beneath his skin, but it had quieted into something manageable, something that he could live with. Today, however, he had indulged that natural instinct to move, recalling his old adventures with wolves who his family would consider to be strangers, but Ries would consider friends. A few days of travel together did not minimize their importance in his life, in his very survival at times. There was some strange comfort in knowing that there were some companions, however short-lived, that you could trust with your life.

He hoped each one was doing well. Wondered if they were still traveling, still seeing the world. His travels had done nothing but lead him back home in some roundabout way, but he felt more grounded now than he ever had before.

It was a beautiful day, sunny with the incoming spring, and Ries basked in it like a lizard on the rocks. He wandered westbound, aimless in his exploration, and did not expect to encounter a stranger, but any encounters were always welcome. It was why, when he spotted the monochromatic male, lit up in shades of silver in the sunlight, he hardly thought before he approached.

"Hi, there," he greeted, tail sweeping behind him, eager for conversation. It'd been a while since he'd met someone new, after all. It became more apparent that this man was much larger than himself, but that wasn't uncommon, and... striking. Ries felt a familiar touch of warmth grace his cheeks as he paused, not wanting to encroach too far in on the stranger's space, and waved his tail. Only then did he realize the man had a paw pressed to his throat, and concern replaced the smile on his face. "Is everything alright?"
