She felt…different. Though her body retained reminders of her past, slick pink scars hidden beneath silky brown fur, her mind felt stronger—wiser. Like she’d grown from home to home. Perhaps she had, but Kaida fell between the lines instead of outside them, she’d only been what she was told to be. Only grew how much she was allowed. Some things, some instructions, were never forgotten.

But even in the midst of her mind feeling stronger, the threat of everything else still made her wary. Her past was gone, replaced with a present she could dwell within without caution, and yet—yet, the fear remained still. It made her cower slightly as a voice rung out, sharp against the softness around her.

Though she cowered before, it was the feminine tone that had her relaxing, shoulders easing as she slipped through the brush with a practiced elegance. She peeked between the green with a warm laugh similar to one she’d greet a long friend with, words falling with a honeyed tone. “Not tailing—but do you usually have people following you?”
