The setting sun had been breathtaking, a masterpiece of reds, oranges, and purples stretching endlessly across the sky. Kirain remembered the serene warmth it brought her, a rare moment of peace that lulled her into a swift, dreamless sleep. Darkness had embraced her completely.
Now, a cold breeze brushed against her fur, carrying a flurry of snowflakes that landed softly on her face. She scrunched her nose and stirred, blinking sleep from her eyes. As her surroundings came into focus, a faint confusion settled over her. Morning light spilled across the landscape, but nothing looked familiar.
The world around her was cloaked in snow, pristine and glimmering under the pale sunlight. It was beautiful, breathtaking even, but disorienting. Where was she? How was it snowing? Hadn’t it been spring when she drifted off?
She rose slowly, shaking her thick white pelt to dislodge the snow clinging to her fur. A flurry scattered around her as she stretched, easing her muscles. The scene before her was striking, an endless expanse of white dotted with stoic evergreen trees.
Kirain let out a soft breath, her eyes scanning the horizon. There were no signs of life, no hints of familiarity. With a final glance at the snowy expanse, she picked a direction and began to walk. Perhaps she’d find someone, or something, that could explain this strange, wintry world.
