in her youth xiaomei was a prized girl in the lagoon of her clan; growing into the ideal woman with her feminine features and slender shape, yet her father's build and their family's high standing promised the blood for good future sons. at the age of one she was betrothed to the son of the lin family, one year older and of another upper class bloodline. though this would promise a life of comfort as far as the emperor could provide, xiaomei feared being tied down by marriage. even in upper class families there was always the risk of violent men.
