Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Large paws scampered across rugged terrain, every so often missing a beat, only to regain balance and continue forward. Mother and Father seemed to have busied themselves elsewhere, and Runar would not waste time with second thoughts. Where he was going was unknown, but he was sure not to wander too far. The Summit's peaks, though promising, would not be his target today.

Following worn paths down the mountain, it was only a matter of time before the hard rock began to blend with mulch and weeds. A thin stream babbled nearby and ultimately guided him in a new direction until he reached a series of pools lined by stones. The water glittered in a way unlike the shallow pools of Mosswell Cavern, leaving the heavy boy mesmerized as his tongue spilled from his maw.

Several months had passed since the whelping of her newest siblings, and the passing of those among that litter that'd been too delicate for their world. Rea had moved on from that misfortune; it was simply the way of nature. The family's focus needed to turn toward the living, and the surviving whelps had thrived.

All but one.

@Katja was like her in many ways, but most notable was the affliction they shared. Their senses did not perform as well as others but neither sister was willing to let their condition slow them down. Rea was not the best teacher for her little sibling, for despite coming of an age where maturity was to be expected, her spirit clung to its youth. She was still full of fun and mischief, and set a poor example.

It was not the girl who Rea followed, however. Instead it was a brother that she pursued, and she kept Runar in her sight as he followed the stream. Only when he paused at the pools did she quicken her gate and chirp a playful: “hey, shithead! ”

Runar's tongue flicked to wet his nose as a set of paw steps quickly followed behind him. He shouldn't be in trouble, he was being good. The voice that followed, however, was not chiding or disappointed despite the words thrown his way. Runar looked to his sister with a near 90 degree tilt of his head from confusion. Runar has nothing on head? Was she speaking to someone else? A quick glance around them said they were alone, but maybe she saw something he didn't.

“Uugh,” she groaned, disheartened by Runar's response. Zero sense of humour with this sibling, apparently! Rea carried on striding toward him, closing the distance and reaching to bop him playfully atop the head as she drew near enough. “Never mind! What are you up to?”

Reminder to self runar is 5-6 months here

The boy pouted at his sister's frustrations. He didn't understand what had made her seemingly upset, but the worries faded as she quickly changed topics. A bop to his head sent the boy's tongue tip sprawling through his lips, Runar wanted to see world! Like pool. It shows the sky, weird no? His tail wagged from his haunches as the young lad soon scampered to the rocks that lined the water. He could clearly see his reflection from the shallow hollows, though the sun shone brighter tinting the water almost green in its clear hue.
