Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Veodonus continued onwards, learning as she so went. The region was strange — but one way or another she was pulled her and fully took into that. For the meanwhile she travelled around, saw a variety of lands that were not similar to the northern coast she knew of. The continual travel around was a long flat land, endless golden grass spewed across the land with the occasional forest or dip into the ground. She moved toward a stream, where salmon overtook it by the dozen. It felt out of season, but she could see their red through the river.

In the distance she could see horses. They were dipping into the water, taking as they went but looked at her with a gruff, snorting in a hostility. She smiled in amusement as they toyed with a look of 'if you dare.' No wolf was foolish enough to charge them head on. Even if they were rather uncommon to where the blue-wolf once was, any ungulate had a dangerous kick. She sat by the river, watching, and observing.

The man did as the journey required- their whole reason for coming here- make friends with the horses. It truly was more of his father's job, as leader of The Warm-Blooded but, that dog was old. Dove really didn't want him to get kicked in the face.
So he trod around the herd, as he did yesterday and the day before, keeping on eye on them. Trying to get closer and closer to them before they would pin their ears back and huff for him to back off. Every time he got a little bit closer, just inches, but closer none-the-less. It was clearly slow progress.

He was taking a break, laying a yard or so away from the horses as they drank, when they suddenly seemed perturbed. Dove looked confused and cocked his head. Why were they doing that? He hadn't moved for at least an hour.
Following their line of sight, there was a creature. Canine-like.
No, not just canine-like- it was a wolf!

There were hardly any where he had come from, if any at all. He couldn't even remember. Perhaps they were just coyotes. However, the dog immediately stood up from the tall grass in defense. He wondered if the stranger would mistake him for a foal.

Just in case, he barked to get their attention- and to clear the air that he wasn't a baby horse.

Lazily as so was watching them and made no movements. They were wild and free, she didn't see more of the herd around them but surely there was more aways. Don't horses flock in large masses? A stampede of them were ferocious as any elk one, she would well argue if not more dangerous. Their hind legs were deadly as a golden eye looked at them as they took looked at her with a malice, it even brought a light chuckle from Veondonus.

Then in the midst of them she saw a figure. As her paws crossed over each other while laying, she looked at it with a cocked head — it was another dog. Though breeds of dogs were rather vain and unknown, any canid knew that dogs in particular were a vary within their looks. The man who was more north was large with a flat-face, but this was was smooth like a fish, pointed and pale to the touch. They roamed awfully close to near the herds, and she just chuffed back lightly across the litter, with a small smile.

For a moment, Dove narrowed his eyes with a brief suspicion. Calculations of the situation going over in his head and, despite the judgement his peers may have laid out, for some reason Dove did not feel so threatened. In fact, a bit charmed.
"I am surprised. You do not seem perturbed by my being." He spoke in reference to his breed and caliber. The dog had already been asked once or twice about what on earth he was. Though, also a hint to his sudden appearance from within the grass. The man thought it rather interesting that the woman did not so much as flinch.

He dared step long pale limbs closer, shortening the gap between them. A smile on his maw as he approached, though his tail rigid still. While fondly curious, the man was still no complete fool. He had been lied to before with sweet smiles and pretty faces. Though seldom any so pretty as this one, he would silently admit to himself.
Dove looked back for a moment at the horses and then back to the woman. "Do you enjoy watching them?" He wondered if she was only watching out of boredom or because a sincere interest, though he expected the former.

"Dogs aren't a mythical being. You just don't see them interacting much with wolves." A yawn stretched as they commented. She knew that there were those who very much were against the concept of them, they were often looked upon as a lesser wolf, but many knew not how they originated from. He has never done anything to her and saw no reason of such bigotry or hostility, though was quite curious of their kind roaming so.. Was it a normalcy in these parts?

"I rarely seen them close up." It was the truth of that curiosity as golden eyes glided back to their forms. They were built for speed and muscle, running across the lands faster then any other, Veodonus thought. Powerful was a general word especially as their legs pushed through and could knock anyone upside down into death's door.. If they were true carnivores, it'd be trouble for the ecosystem, she so imagined.
