Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Marcel once spoke to Vashti of water holding power above any other element which meant to her that if she was looking for a window … maybe the river was what she was looking for.

Curiously, she wandered until she found it and flocked to the bank where she peered down to see her reflection rippling along the flow of the waters. Now what would a window look like? Mhm…

There was a skip in her step, a song to her voice as she hummed throughout. A lil' dance was given as Miriam traversed through the forests, feeling a bit of rhythm settling upon this day. Her ears twitched to the music of nature, and sounds of the birds tweeting, with the water tuning to another master piece. Her melodramatic paws were leading to the waters, where she could see a wolf basking in evening rain as stared through. The drizzle came forth, she could feel the pattering upon her back that felt but a drum to it all.

She was humming, she chuffed at them — like an invite if she wanted to sing and dance in the midst of this rain.

A child of the wilds even before she wandered on four paws, the rains mattered none as she pursued her search further along the river, watching with a strange look marring her features as she continually struggled with making sense of this body being what she spoke with, walked with. So much so, she had yet to learn how to use its benefits to her advantage, and it left her lost when another finally made themself apparent.

Vashti didn't understand wolf and she'd never been the finest with social graces. "Have you seen a window?" she said, dark brows quirked and her now stilled posture... sure, confident, like what she spoke of would make sense. It must. This wolf was native to these lands, she supposed. "It's... you would know when you saw it—have you?"

Pitter patter, so goes her paws, and a voice strumming against the nature. She observed the other with a smile, but they did not join such a dance, much to her disappointment, "does it not call to you?" Miriam asked as she continued within her own world of so ; perhaps an oddity that it looked, where the silver danced and the fawn one only asked questions.

"They say a window is an opening," singing and singing, as any wolf would do on the day of today. At least so she felt, her mystical paws gaining more of a traction as she picked up such a speed in grace. Her mood was especially high for some reason, almost as if nature was intertwining itself. Although the other may not join her, she was laughing to none by herself and her own paws.

"An opening to the world, of one's own heart?" she had a light giggle.

Vashti had to tilt her head, struggling to process the other's approach. The rain sought to dot her face, droplets clinging to her lashes, and whiskers. "Does what... not call to me?" said she, shaking her head to rid herself of the rain trying to obscure her sight. While not entirely correct and slow to the beat, she connected some of the dots presented and went on, "It is real soon to say whether I'm drawn to you or not, lovely voice as you have—I'm on the look for a..." Her voice tapered off, particularly single-minded when so called to it.

"...to one's heart, maybe? I know there's a window to find somewhere here, there has to be." And then she perked from her thoughts quickly and padded toward the other, curiosity on her tongue. "You. Are you native to these lands?"

"Not me," the sounds were not to their ears, the voidance of so as Miriam's paws took her near to them. Shoulder to shoulder, touching just by inches with the occasional swing of her hips and the sway of her tail, brushing them so subtle and moving away just as fast. Dancing around them so, as the humming continued on alongside the buzzing of nature. The birds coo'd, the water moved, and she danced to life, "to life's heart. To the nature that calls, to the whispers it sings and the guide that brings us all to this land.." Whispering and raining, the sky croaked with a thunder.

"Most of us were brought here, somewhere, some place, by the calling of the heavens itself. Were you, miss?"
