Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Ara had smelled the faint remaining of a fox within the mountains. She frowned, though was relatively stale, it couldn't been more then a few days old ; meaning that perhaps, it was still within the mountains.. On it's trail was the remnants of blood, a signing of a hunt that the vulpine had done, and usually that perhaps indicated that there was kits around, and it's nest was founded somewhere. She would have to investigate.

As she prowled to find a more recent trail, Ara had saw her brother @Scorpius, and she gently brushed against his shoulder, an eye looked at him, and dipping toward what was a faint trail of this fox. A wondering if she wished to join on this patrol.

As Scorpius grew, and his siblings grew alongside him, the prince began to find unlikely companions amongst kin he'd once regarded as enemies. Perhaps this came with age. But normal or not, Scorpius found he enjoyed the change, and when Ara brushed alongside him today, he met her gaze with a lopsided smirk.

He'd smelled the foxes, too, but had little want to track them alone. There was hardly any fun in a solo fox hunt. But Ara was strong and quick; she would prove good company in the chase.

Scorpius made a glance along the trail with a brief gesture of a nod, a quiet sign of giving her the charge. Lead the way, captain.

Ara was unaware of the animosity that her kin held against her at times within her youth. She did not see it as bullying, she saw it as rough-housing and exerting dominance as their mother does to others. Although to say it was only a few months ago she would do so, constantly within the attack, and one was to remember the sneak-attacks that Scoripus did — but Ara learned from so, and rather she took his trick and used it among others. She long had grown out of it though. Perhaps it was also the stiffling of being refined from their den, as now she had calmed much since then with the ability to roam.. And rather sought out her littermates for patrols and the sorts. However, she was aware, that there was a lacking in familial bond that she couldn't understand why she wasn't close to them as some were to each other. It was frustrating, but she never addressed it.

Instead focus continued with hunts and patrols as they grazed to, and Scorpius joined on so. The smell of a singular fox was on the trail, and her tail rose high. The scent was fresh, but it started to led down the Empyrean mountains that it was too close of a call to tell whether it was still roaming about, or ran off. She would chuff at him to go forward as they would stalk it out, a golden eye grazing over to paw prints that continued leading down, and her head indicated toward it.

They were getting closer.. There was a chance they would chase a fox off.

She bade him forward, and he quirked a brow. Ara, offer him a run in the lead, when he'd given this patrol over to her? If they hadn't been so keen on the hunt he'd have made some sassy remark. Best for both their hides he kept his mouth shut. Still, he always thought Ara the shoe in for the next-in-line if mother ever stepped down. Still thought she was. He used to loathe the idea, but if she gave him space to work in tandem, maybe Queen Ara wouldn't be so bad.

Hah! His mouth smarted in a smirk even as the thought filled him, even as he tracked the mountainside down, down, where the fox prints led. Queen Ara! She will always be sister to me. So maybe not queen just yet -- but would she make as good a tracking partner as Raiden? Would she prove herself better? Hmm, Scorpius thought. They reached the end of the clear trail, and he paused to draw in the scents which pooled at the bottom of the narrow path they'd wormed their way down.

The scents seemed to split off, but Scorpius knew the wiles of the fox and their games of red herring.

He feigned as though making for the right, just as a flash of red zipped through the trees to his western flank.

There! And he pivoted with a signal to Ara - the swing of his muzzle and a giant arc of his tail - and Scorpius leapt into the chase.

As her brother went forward within the trail he moved so. They continued prowling through, silence between them as they both knew better then to in case startling the intruder. Although Ara was always generally silent, even in her younger days she didn't speak too much. However language with body was easy, her silenced words often got across to what she was conveying or directing in instances like these, were the two charged on. She could see the flickering of an orange tail disappearing into the foreground, between the bushes as she brushed her nose against Scorpius.

Her ears bent back with displeasure that the fox was still swarming the area ; they were tricky things.. Most likely after their hunt, or chasing off they would have to find if it made a den anywhere. Bred like rabbits, appeared like so — but now they were near the end of so. Her hackles raised lightly as they got closer, fully ready to leap and fight.

#has no idea how to hunt a fox ;__;

Ara had seen the fox, too.

This was perfect! He caught his sister's displeasure, even as his eyes glinted with excitement. Sure, foul news the fox had made a home for itself somewhere in their territory, but what fun this chase would be!

They moved forward together. Silence still filled the space between them, but that was fine; they spoke in other ways.

The tail had moved in a fox-like pattern - and by that, he meant chaotic - through the underbrush, but Scorpius knew most foxes moved like that to throw their assailants off their backs. They would need to flush the little guy out, and that would work best if one of them broke off and made their way to block off the fox's exit plan.

Scorpius nudged Ara and made a circling motion with his nose. If she stayed the course here, he would start off to circle the fox back on her, though he would need to move quick. The fox had seemed in a bit of a hurry already. If it had realized it was being hunted, no doubt it would make a break for it. And if it was heading back for its den, then Scorpius would simply meet up Ara once she inevitably came upon it in her pursuit from this end of the hunt.
