Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Vera

"I'd stick my tongue out at you!
But it's all broken.
All broken...

Wow!!!"

Anyone is welcome for any kind of interaction, peaceful or violet and everything in between. Leaving the setting/time and location up to joiners.

Everything and nothing was here and had been in these mountains for the past few months. Seasons changed and bonds forgotten as new feelings and life blossom and emerged. The large phantom made of broken dreams and promises had shifted from hiding. Having previously spent most of her time on a small winding mountain at the heart between all her enemies, deciding she had explored the mountains all she wanted to garner enough self-satisfaction. It had been her home-sweet-home. This unnamed formation.

Eyes furrowed to create an unintentionally sharp look, Vera lumbered about with heavy paw-steps, ignoring a slight creak in her worn bones. She had plans to meander about as she made her way one last time down the winding spiraling trail of stone to the direction that led towards the winter grounds she had shied from. What made now different than before? No reasons of any importance or logical sense. It was merely just time. Time to seek new places to haunt with her unholy hunger for vengeance, time to find more individuals of oddity, and something else.

The vengeance of living whatever life she pleased no matter who it hurt or helped. Indulgence was the forbidden fruit that she had all but hoarded for herself to consume via frenzy. The something else being...connection, whether toxic or sickeningly-sweet. Connections she did seek. Yet she was no normal fool. She had weighed the pros and cons of this decision. She had the sense to know that her current actions to wander back out brought with it danger for her. Risks that were above normality. She had left scars on many, both physical and metaphorical, to some whom she had never even met her. Truly an accomplishment if she could allow a second to boast. She would not easily become aloof anymore from company. Vera was ready to hit all with her own rhythm like a wrecking ball.

The sting of air leaving her permanently open crevices among her maw, it whistled and slightly stung the dense scar tissue. Reminding herself that she still had sensations in her battle-heavy vessel. "I thought dead men were suppose to tell no tales..." She said softly to herself in a rough voice that was not used nearly enough. Her words seemed to have spark an amusement of sorts that could be seen from the crooked curve of her lips and from the way her pupils danced. No normal meaning or reasoning had come from the sentence and yet she absolutely loved it. Listening as the vibrations she erupted into the air fizzled out into silence once more. It was not uncommon for Vera to speak to herself now and then. When you lived alone, you had to be your best friend after all. With a huff through her tattered nose, she continued her linear path to the north. She was eager to mingle with the self-righteous trash that spewed such similar words as she.

putting sommewheeree near Vanderfell

Orlaith knew of the enemies that faced Vanderfell Woods, and shared with Shiroshika. Stories of what not of their deeds, but personally has never witnessed. However, it could be said her previous incarnation did! Memories that did not pass, those who knew her before and now.. She was younger, stronger, a bit less stiff in her sticks but nonetheless the usual arrogance and fire that defined who she was. Hot-tempered, hated to lose ; but overall loyal to the cause and those around her. Despite some oddity that was her feelings concerned to many, and the avoidance of some.. She was content with so — for now was the time to show herself.

Two.. The obvious that was facing to the tiger and his mistress, but then there was a stray long ago. A woman of whites bounded by scars. Orlaith obviously so, knew that at the same time knew that many held that appearance, without recognizable markings, it was a wonder. One way or another though she had done something quite awful — which strayed from the warriors mind.

In the distance there she was, causing the warrior to stand and watch her, for a moment. Mind cranking at the thoughts that tied them together, but she couldn't be sure, not yet anyway. By no means was Orlaith hiding herself though, only stopping within her tracks to look at who this stranger was.. White.. Scars.. Smell of loner on the wind.

Coincidence?

It wasn't long before someone had already come out to play. As Vera had meandered about, a wolf was spotted, large and muscular like herself. The only difference was the gleaming look of youth in the other's eyes and her lack of imperfections that Vera was all too aware of. She wondered briefly how long had she had possessed an audience for. With as charming a smile as a battle-scarred mongrel could posses, she changed course to be closer to the other to exchange tongue, making sure to flex as she did so. Not a beat would be missed. "Why hello there...Like what you see Lyubyy~?" She teased with a voice as rough as snake hide yet laced in mirth. She did nothing to hide the wandering gaze of her working eye upon the other's form in such a suggestive manner. Vera tended to prefer feminine wolves, but a little flirting never hurt, especially with a wolf that reminded her of the bursting sun that bleed from open wounds before the moon arrived in its place. Those bloody sunsets scattered with equally red mangled bodies draped in barbed wires of kin. She could see the vision even now as she stared at the other.

Pushing out the images of another life, she allowed herself to become a bit more grounded, serious. The smell of the other suggested the Vanderfell Woods wolves. She did not have much interaction with them but Vera remembered all too well their ties with Shiroshika. This wolf's pack was a potential threat, but the possibility of danger only excited her more. Would they pit their bodies against each other to ravage pain upon? Would they share in connections so thin and weak that they snap within days? What would this encounter bring? Vera decided to fish a little.

With a polite bow to form a greeting, she spoke again as she stared into the other's eyes with curiosity, "Vanderfell wolf, ey? Guess that makes sense around here. Surely such a lovely warrior as you must have a name, dah?" She asked before proceeding to sit causally on her haunches to reach a shoulder scar to itch. She was trying to remain relaxed, but there was a sharpness to her, from one who was experienced, a veteran of the unexpected. A rubber-band that was ready to let loose whenever needed.

Orlaith, didn't do flirting. Anyone who did was often on her shit-list, as her face contorted to an obvious disgust to this strange wolf who ventured forth in a smooth-tongue that did not fit her appearance. Little bit of sexism on her end, for Orlaith wouldn't bat an eye if it was a man, but seeing that of a grown-ass woman, full of battle scars, trying to flirt with another warrior? She could feel herself internally vomitting and already wanted to exit this situation altogether.

"Who wants to know?" she huffed with a snort, an obvious glare to them in a discomfort that Orlaith was more then ready to snap if she pushed too many lines. A part of her was starting to doubt it was the same wolf, for anyone who had any sense wouldn't approach an enemy, right? Large and strong, she didn't look like a fool.

Vera could see that her lax and sultry advances had not amused the other in the slightest. Seems someone doesn't like to play. Ah youth are far too serious before the guillotine... she mused in her head. Still, her look of satisfaction did not falter at the other's cold tone and expressions. Was this rejection? Perhaps disapproval was the better word. Either way, Vera let out a hardy laugh at the other's aloof response. "Such a cold response for one of warmed pelts. But to answer your question..." She chuckled before getting up and taking another step closer, her voice going down an octave as something far more sinister appeared. "No one important, just a monster of toska." She said, the words causing old wounds to reveal phantom pain that only quickened the heat in her blood. Her tongue slipping out to rub against shinning teeth as if she could catch the words to stick em right back into her mouth.

Her head then tilted in a way that showed curiosity, a softer expression, but there was a sort of animosity in that amber eye of Vera's. "Tell me now...what do you do to monsters dear stranger?" Her question was simple and yet there was a heavy implication to her words that signaled that whatever the response would be was of utter importance for future actions.

A fucking weirdo.

"You're fucking nuts, that's what. Nutcases deserve an ass beating," Orlaith snapped lightly at the woman, her irritation sky-rocketing, especially as wasn't prepared to deal with someone who equipped herself as a monster. They were wolves, and she was off their knockers.. This was something she'd have to report later, but the thought to turn back and do so immediately was not within sound of mind, rather she felt it'd be a mockery if she turned and 'ran' away, feeling deadlocked within the place. Either she turns, or Orlaith does —

something felt like this would turn into a fight.

Im up for the fight ending either in a draw or a dice roll to decide, but if you want to roll and make health for each turn let me know

Vera kept her smile, yet it twitched a little, as if she were trying to be polite and hide her excitement. Such harsh words about societal stigma. "Ah..." Vera had finally uttered after a pregnant pause. She then began to pace back and forth, neither getting farther nor closer to the other. Something was going on behind that cranium. One would have expected the other to have revealed some sort of grave secret to Vera. While focusing on her pacing, she reflected out-loud a villainous monologue. "Nuts huh? Something that is illogical compared to your logic, yes? Those that cannot conform into your line of thinking, or is it that they cannot conform to what you are use to? Maybe its not about the logistics of the mind but instead about what the individual, you, decides at the exact moment in front of the ego of another? Hm...hm...hmmm...such a paradox that is out to get me-oh-woe... is me..." She babbled, seeming in a trance.

Yet she was not what she appeared as usual, for as if out of nowhere, she quickly slid a rock on top of a paw and tossed it in the air before smacking it at the other. Whether it hit or not mattered little as its only purpose was to serve as either a distraction or tool to flinch the other, hitting/hurting was just a bonus. Like a freight train, she charged in at the other, trying to arch herself below them to fling herself at the other with momentum. She would only be able to support the other's weight momentarily despite the outcome, her goal being to separate after this initial onslaught.

Orlaith blinked, completely zoning her out.

She was going on, and on.. About damn time for a moment of pause where she was going to turn around and walk away, but the damn lunatic charged! She tried to do the element of surprise, however that was Orlaith's signature move, a bulldoze over, and often did not work on her. She showed her shoulder to the other as they went low, fully intending it to be a guard against this woman. A rather even match to say, both overally large and with mild experience — though the other maybe more, she was still a young warrior, and the past self who held that experience, did not exist.

She currently staying on the defensive, awaiting to get a good bite in.

Vera snorted as the two massive opposing forces clashed and she was shoved away from the grip she wanted upon the other. The shoulder hitting her nose directly. Blood slowly dripped from her nostril. The first blood was spilled and it was not her own. The sting was rough but it was brushed aside for malice. She was displeased to have underestimated the other, expecting a much more fiery display. "Such safe plays for one who talks big!" Vera managed to retort back with degrading venom. The white warrior was all fired up, if this stranger wouldn't fight with passionate animosity then Vera would have to show her the ropes.

She would launch herself again with a gruesome snarl, but to not be a one trick pony, she would this time aim for the other's leg as she prepared another possible shoulder check or type of defense. Vera would grab the leg and yank her down, hoping to get her on the ground to turn this into a rolling match in the dirt.
