Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

to eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art. thats what her family would say. or rather, her younger brother. he would always say some inspirational quote whenever olive spoke about different flavors. how berries tasted with certain meats or muscles. how textures worked and melted together, elevating the dish. just eating to survive was one thing, but olive strived for another. there would be no world in which she could live, if she didnt enjoy food. speaking of food, she couldn't remember the last time she ate... and why was it so hot?

the blaring sun slammed against her like a beam, drowning and searing her flesh at the same time. the molten hot sand sinking into her skin was the final and driving force for the woman to open her eyes. everything was hot. it burned. the darkened colors of her pelt not aiding in this sudden and odd situation. if she remembered correctly... she didnt fall asleep in the desert... but whenever she tried to access those distant memories, a fog would gloss over. the disruption sent a pounding headache through her skull, a distinct warning to keep out. not that she had time to push further. the immediate need was to get to shade and water.

thankfully, this land seemed to be an oasis of some sort. a perfect haven for a clearly disgruntled and flabbergasted woman.

Khonsu saw it fit to bring to them many a wolf in need of respite. it thrilled Toula, truly, that the God would know where to send them for safe haven—for a life! again another arrived, looking lost—near His altar, that Toula then approached with lovely gifts. a Mazoi stepped ahead and Toula allowed a fellahin to announce her.
she provided her offerings to the altar they had crudely built, and answered words heard on the wind once she had been introduced, all of her formal titles provided. “Akashingo’s own Oasis,” she informed, looking over the stranger for any sign of being wounded. “we are before the altar of Khonsu—He is the God of the moon, of healing, of time… and a protector of travelers. I do not doubt He brought you here to me. but who are you, I wonder?” she gives room for her to answer!

It is Mesen-ka who steps forward.

Shield of the people, and right now, of the goddess.
He ensures she is protected at all sides, an ear always pointing to her body. Alert, disciplined, watching now the hazel green eyes of an oakland woman making way through the sand.

It is very like Toula to pick the strays.
He hopes this one makes their time of worth. It is intriguing to listen to every time.

the putrid heat curled its forked tongue at the outsider, its hiss a rattle deep within her skull. the lashes from the sun striking against her soil stained pelt made small beads of sweat begin to take shape. her viridescent eyes growing wide as her tongue slowly slipped out of her mouth to form a soft pant. where in the seven hecks was she!? why was she here?! where even was here?

the dame's body went through a visceral reaction to the sudden climate change, but even in her muddled state, a voice clear as the rising sun called out. there, off in the not too far distance, came a woman of medium stature. her pelt was a mixture of a silken cream and a muted form of brown. her most striking feature being her water colored eyes. they were the most deep hue of turquoise she had ever seen. like shimmering gems, they stood out against her diluted backdrop.

completely entranced, olive hardly had a moment to string together a response. her mind tried to make sense of the sudden burst of information thrown at her. this location was an alter. a place for some god named Khonsu. and supposedly he, the god, brought her here?

each of the puzzle pieces began to fall on her hypothetical game board, but the picture was still unclear. she still couldn't entirely understand or register what was going on around her. in fact, the woman barely caught the scent of a second wolf. a male with a large and stocky build. no, scratch that. he was a tank of a brute. he was forged of bronze and rich earthy sediments. he was a man of the earth. crafted from its crust. just his presence alone made her stomach twist.

powering through the uncomfortable bubbles that slowly began to pop, the woman raised her eyes to look at the radiant dame. "im...olive..?" the lady spoke with half confidence and half trepidation. the very last thing she wanted was to shoe any form of disrespect, but in truth she just couldn't think straight. her stomach was famished and need for substance was beginning to bloom at a rapid rate.
