Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

prompt generated: On the ground there are a pair of antlers, but fresh blood is splattered around them.
setting: just outside duskguard borders
skill note: warden

The titan fell into his routine easily, going about his business to repeatedly strength his borders to ensure that no scent of his grew dull or died off. The latter would be hard given how active he was through his Vale yet it was not something he was willing to allow, his desire to ward off anyone seeking to cause chaos strong enough to keep him active -- perhaps dangerously so, as his habits repeated themselves.

It had only gotten more intense as Olive grew by the day, carrying their children. Today, though, the patrol had led him on one of his usual routes just out of the borders as he did his daily check of them and a present was seemingly left. A strange one, he thought as his molten gaze happened upon the crimson trail in the snow. A sniff of his nose didn't divulge to him any wolves that were not accounted for but as he followed the trail, there lay a pair of antlers.

Seeing antlers was not entirely that strange but usually they were accompanied by a corpse, their owner, or at least a skull. This was not the case, for all they were accompanied by was fresh blood. Tiberius' features were stormy as his shoulders grew rigid, was someone hunting too close to his home? Yet... no strange scent was on the wind, though downwind he stood so perhaps it carried differently. The blood was fresh, very fresh, however, yet no one was in sight.

The titan looked to the antlers, strange as they were without a skull attached. Suspicion coursed through his bulky frame as he flickered his gaze around once more protectively, suspiciously. ^^

The man had been exploring and wandering, minding his own buisness when the scent of his king caught his attention. Moving closer, he also caught the scent of fresh blood, spurring the man into a quick run. It didn't take the large male long to get there, and as he approached he looked over at the darkened wolf first, checking that he wasn't injured or seem to be in any danger.

It was then that his eyes went to the antlers and the blood, curiosity and confusion crossing his features. "Did you hunt somethin?" He asked as he moved closer, coming to stand next to Tiberius, though he had a sneaking suspicion given how the man was acting, that he hadn't killed whatever this was. It struck the man as odd that there was no scent, no fur, and nothing besides the blood and the antlers itself. Something was off.

He should have known the other man would come. It was a rarity that someone held the same dedication as he to ensuring the borders were well kept and protected yet he found something familiar within Genghis. His question came easily and Tiberius appraised the scene, still uneasy. The behemoth shook his head, "nah," he rumbled. "Ain't no one but us on tha wind," he frowned, "ain't seen no one runnin' from 'ere, either."

It wasn't normal for antlers to be decapitated from the body. The goddamn skull. Yet no body was in sight. Only the antlers and the fresh blood. He cast his molten gaze to the other man who was shouldered with mountains of fur as usual, "yer seen anythin' strange on yer patrols lately?" Because he hadn't -- but had he missed something? He thought that Genghis would approach him prior if he had seen something yet it was a stone he must turn.

Tiberius rolled his shoulders as he returned his gaze to the horizon, as if seeking out a form retreating that he had first missed. ^^

He had a feeling that it wasn't as normal as he was hoping it was, but that didn't stop him from trying to figure out a reason. Or at least a reason that didn't sound absolutely insane. Nonetheless, narrowed eyes would flicker around, as if he would find something that his leader missed. Of course he didn't.

As the man asked about his patrols, he would shake his head simply, letting out a soft grunt. "No, but I will double my patrols." He didn't like this in the slightest and was clearly on edge after this. He would move to start making a parameter around the odd abomination to make sure nothing else was going on.

He nodded, expecting the answer. Genghis would have come to him with any concerns that he found out on his patrols, he was certain. "Be careful yer don't exhaust yerself, mate," Tiberius warned as he watched the man move forward to inspect. "I appreciate yer workin' 'ard an' yer been a great 'elp," he rumbled as he cast his molten gaze to the horizon, well and truly seeing nothing out of the ordinary.

There wasn't even bloody footsteps leading away from the antlers and no body, hair or fur around to say anyone had been near. Yet... the blood was fresh, so very fresh. "May as well take tha antlers wit' us back, good fer chewin' or somethin', I's sure," he grunted as he leaned down to see about grasping the antlers in his teeth. ^^

The man was still very much on edge with everything that was going on, but he forced himself to be calm with his King precent. He would bow his head slightly at the other male, acknowledging and thanking him for the complement. However, he stayed quiet, eyes flickering around before letting out a soft grunt of 'okay' as Tiberius talked about taking the antlers back. With that, he would nod a farewell before turning to leave, starting a patrol to check the area.
