Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The beast lazed about, a mighty yawn escaping unamused jaws. Breath escaped from his chest like a puff of hot fire, erupting in a burst of foggy mist from the depths of his body. The large body stretched, long limbs pressing his canine form forward in a rather unenthusiastic 'downward dog.' The dust lifted from his bones as he moved, and he rose from his gentle slumber beside the lake. And he creaked to life like a machine, gears whirring and cogs turning.

Ares moved toward the lake, dragging his sleepy, cumbersome paws toward the edge of the water.

The water was quiet. Crystalline.

He gazed from the edge of the water, admiring the way the sunbeams danced on the still surface and reflected back into his molten eyes.
And he caught a glimpse of himself.
    And he was lovely.

A soft smile graced handsome lips, flaming eyes sparking as those crimson brows rose up. That long, navy tail flicked gently behind him as he placed himself to sit at the water's edge. Oh, if only Narcissus could see him now.

Miriam did not have a den, or a particular place to sleep. When the stars came out, she would find an appropriate abandoned den, or otherwise a safe area to take the night to sleep. She valued her rest, especially as a traveler she needed ample energy to not only explore, but hunt, as so the loner life demands. She may be skinnier then she was within her homeland, but nonetheless kept her appetite well enough to be comfort. She held life like a wayfarer, but did not regret it, nor' seek out a pack to join.

She wanted to see the world.

Miriam had taken a nightful spell upon the lake. She snuffled closely to a tree and a bush, keeping out of sight of others but gazing lovingly at the beautiful lake. The sounds of paw steps came to be, and the scent of another upon the wind ; a man of darkness and minorly light, who approached the lake and.. Smiled.

She lifted her head out of the bush and looked at him curiously, wondering whether to introduce herself or go back to taking a good nights rest.

Had he had fingers, he would have reached them up to brush them through his long hair.

But alas. His time with humanoid hands was well beyond his reach. Instead, he could only raise and lower the rosy eyebrows that he'd been gifted in this fine, muscled wolf form as he gazed at himself in the crystalline water.

There was a persistent silence that echoed around him, clinging to his navy fur as he perched effortlessly at the edge of the lake. And because he was so akin to that silence, it did not surprise him when there was an ever-so-peculiar break — an abnormal break in the cacophony. His fire-lit gaze turned, burning fresh as he peered toward the brush that had once concealed the beautiful form of the now-visible lilac female.

Oh yes, he'd seen her.

And ... oh, she was beautiful. Lovely. Irridescent.
Perhaps not as beautiful as he, but alas, he was a god.
But for a mortal. She was ... perfect.

Titan-Esque body pivoted with feline grace, his long tail flicking gently behind his behemoth body. "Mon Cherie," he cooed gently, swaying as he neared the bush that she so elegantly hid behind. Crimson brows rose as a smirk graced his ebony lips, a flash of dashing ermine fangs flickering in the early morning light. "Watching me, were you?" He smirked.

There was nothing there but confidence. Expectation. Charm.

She couldn't deny him now.

She met the gaze of another ; fiery, like the sky when the sun just came over and breathed life itself. Although his pelt was just as dark as it's nights, raptured in the few scars that gave way from the obvious darkness in his pelt. Anything that wasn't was seen, to the scars to the red — to his eyes, a pretty about all. He was an attractive figure, especially as he smiled and spoke a language she knew not, smirking, at her.

But Miriam only smiled at him, laughing lightly at what she thought was a jest, "apologies.. I was resting here and noticed you by." A yawn to follow an expression of showing she was in truth, to take a slumber in these very bushes. Although, perhaps it wasn't safe by how noticeable she was, but as a wayfarer life, that was always such a risk. Maybe next time.. A cave or a burrow.
