The salt, it seeps in through the pores of my open skin

Distantly, the woman could hear the waves rush in, overlaid with the song of the birds above and the water that dripped from the trees around her. More distantly, Esmerelda could pick out the roll of thunder on the seas, a storm brewing nearby that was sure to blow in from the east. She had time before it would become necessary to find shelter, though perhaps the estuary would provide that, though their safety remained to be seen.

Cautious steps carried her forward as she explored the area that stirred such... apprehension in her soul. The Siren hadn't made much of an effort to thoroughly explore here, having been made wary of its environment from that first time she'd been here when she'd found Ceridwen, though she'd certainly scouted around it. She would find the dangers and inform herself of them; besides, with @Wake by her side, there was never anything to be scared of.

Pausing in both thought and motion, Esmerelda lifted her head and searched for her more wily companion, periwinkle eyes finding the form of her wife a small distance away. “Find anything interesting?” She asked, voice lifted so that she could hear her.

“not my favorite, but i don't hate them.”

not finding anything particularly interesting on her side, esmerelda adjusted her course to angle her path to bring her to her sailor's side. weaving around the cypress trees, menacing in their sentried positions, she found nothing that explained the unease this place gave her — only serving to make that unease grow.

sidling up to her, esme kissed the rough shoulder of her wife before peering at her find. “fitting for this place.” her tone was neutral but just on the edge of... something. not disgust. not upset. not even frustration.

there was just something about this place. so much so that it made her bring up a topic that they had not yet broached. “should we find the children, i would like to tell them this place is off limits.” she didn't mean to bring them up but the words slipped from mouth just as quickly as she thought them.

she stepped closer, water sloshing around their ankles while esmerelda pressed close to her. she knew wake's pain, her fears, her questions. knew the despair that sliced through her soul like a knife. Where were their children?

“i know, amante.” she didn't need to say it, as wake was an intelligent creature. but she wished to try and soothe her sailor anyhow. “we will find them. even if we ravage hell and earth to do so.”
