Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

When she woke up there was nothing but snow in the land. The vague smells of wolf within an area and paw prints from wanderers, but nothing that indicated someone nearby, or even a pack. When she tried to think of where 'home' was, Rin had realized.. She couldn't remember, what that was. She didn't know what direction, where she even hailed from, much less a family. Did anyone miss her? There wasn't anything within her own heart that felt cracked, not even a void that she felt should've been there. Almost like a strange tranquility, a calmness as her mind renewed itself and she came anew as well to this land.

Wandering as she did, for what was the purpose ; of it all? Was she here for a reason, or was it but a coincidence? Her mind erased and she knew not why, for there was no concussion or anything that indicated something happened to cause. Just.. Simply swipped away without a care. It did bring curiosity, as paws glided against the tundrian land and roamed so ; gray eyes gazing about and gathering any knowledge that could be gained.

She would adapt.

She has adapted.

There was roaming, and she thought to see someone within the distance.. Perhaps they could give her some whereabouts to the region. Rin approached the stranger, a small chuff at her presence.

The north was cold, even under spring’s thaw, and the cold was familiar. Dead grass crunched underfoot. Its colour pale and off; sickly.

Someone chuffed at him—

And he stopped.

Hunched, slouched shoulders and horrible posture. His tail still, limp, dead weight, between his hocks.

“What.”

They seemed rather grating — a looming despotic gaze that stood out from the tundrian colors around. He was pale, not a golden view but enough that stood against some of the snow itself that she knew by heart, he was a stranger to the land, or much less not someone of these origins. He smelled of no one, not a pack or companions ; utterly alone. But even though, just maybe he could provide some information for her, "Excusez-moi," Rin started.

"Savez-vous où nous sommes ? J'ai peur d'être perdu et de ne pas connaître la région ni ses habitants." She was a french-wolf, with her accent and words being clear it did not dawn upon her that she was elsewhere within the world that spoke but another. She went on without a thought, thinking nothing of speaking within a native tongue and only hoped, as she looked at him with a calming gaze, if he would provide this hope.

She spoke—

And he made a face somewhere between irritation, disgust, and confusion.

Irritation and disgust, at the fact he was being fucking talked to.

Confusion, at the fact that he didn’t know what the fuck she was fucking saying.

“Fucking, what? He scowled. His ears pinned back. Seriously, she was fucking worse than anyone he had ever fucking met before, which had to be fucking saying something seeing how he'd put up with Spooky's stupid fucking ass.

“Talk fucking right.” He demanded.

Or else he was fucking leaving.

"Oh je vois.." Rin was a french woman, and the world she dipped into was not. A creativity in various cultures and yet her own language would not be used so often compared to that of English origin. She thought over it, those words are harsh perhaps he was surprise by her sudden difference within language. She would not take it to heart, despite the feeling of his overreaction toward the scenario itself it mattered not.

"Apologies," though her tongue still held a thick within french origin, somehow she knew to speak English. It was strange how she knew and couldn't say why, but enough that her words weren't so muddled, "I did not realize you spoke English," she apologized with a straight face and dipped her head lightly within that apology.

Anyone would be startled with someone coming up to them within a foreign language, "Do you happen to know where we are? I'm afraid i'm lost, and do not know the region or it's inhabitants." Well, at the very least if he was a regular around and someone of these lands, she now knew how to properly speak.

“North.” He grunted.

She was north.

The land of ice and snow, and now, apparently, a fucking sunny, snowless forest where there used to be a mountain.

And he didn’t really give a fucking damn about who she was, what language she spoke, or anything that might have happened to her prior to this moment or what fucking happened to her after.

She asked.

He fucking answered.

He started to walk.

She blinked.

"I can see that." If they weren't north there would be snow within the spring-time. She didn't even know how she knew, but perhaps at least instincts came through where memories failed. Feeling that it was of that season and yet around was of ice and snow, a clear indication where she woke up, or dug through, was the land of the tundra itself. Closely, hanging to the arctic zone.

He was unfriendly and curt, as already with a single answer did he run off. She thought about it for a moment.. And decided it wasn't worth chasing after him, but tried one more question before he left. Since he wasn't a talkative man, the gray wolf knew her question as well, would need to be to the point. So she called out to him within a final question.

"Do wolves live here?"

She at least wanted to know if the place was inhabitable, or Rin had some hope on the matter.

“Everywhere.” He grunted.

Wolves lived fucking everywhere. She could literally pick a fucking direction and find the fuck out herself. What, did she fucking think it was just him and her, together at the end of the fucking world?

Fuck no.

She let him leave.

And he left.

She hoped to not see him again.

At the very least, Rin had gained something about the land — where wolves were 'everywhere.' If this was a heavily populated region, at the very least survival must be easier. There was hope, to survive within the tundra itself. Something felt like she naturally belonged to the colder place, and if there was hope ; she didn't want to leave it.

But.. It'd be nice if others were more a bit more commutative then him. Seeing as she wouldn't get anywhere, Rin watched him leave without knowing much, not even a name. Which she too, then turned toward the opposite direction of the red-eyed devil.
