Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

^^There was nothing; not a single memory - yet somehow, he swore he’d been here before. The thickness of the air; the way grass and stone felt beneath his paws. He’d re-woken two days ago, feeling empty and void of nearly all emotion, excluding the pain of hunger and a full bladder.

The weather was the only thing that seemed to be different; there was this static tension that he couldn’t quite place. Shifts of warm and cold air, and worse of all, - the clouds that didn’t move. His eyes narrowed, hackles lifting; deciding that he didn’t quite like how the weather was behaving, or the look from the clouds.

The now-yearling shook his head and glanced back to the water, staring at his reflection and the reflection of the storm while he waited for the fish to gather at his feet.

There was something strange about this land.. An ominous sign was within the backdrop, a magic she knew not was hanging in an static within the air itself. Feeling the shift of temperatures from warm and cool, to the winds that breezed through. She noticed now though, the storm that lurked within the background that never seemed to move, ever so dark, and ever so intimidating. She would think that it was the Darkness itself in a physical form, but had to remind herself, that was not how the evil in the world so worked. It wrapped in the heart, and not presented as storms of the unknown.

But it brought the question what it was? She knew of the land and it's magic, but never saw something quite like so. Never moving, and always booming.. Not a tornado of a hailstorm that was coming from them. She was gazing at it from a riverside, and only then noticed there was another within a distances away. She smiled, and said, "those clouds don't seem to be moving. Do you know what's happening?"

not me forgetting about this thread, rip, my bad

There was something strange, indeed, including whatever it was that was literally brewing in the sky. It was hard not to notice it, the swirling clouds; the hot and cold flashes, as if mother nature was a woman on menopause.

He became so still that he could see the clouds in the reflection of the water, and once a little fishie came into view, he would strike annnnnd totally missed. He came up with a mouthful of water, as the woman spoke - and he wondered how long she’d been there.

“Perhaps the ancients are having a disagreement.” Not that he believed in that stuff, but many did. He just wasn’t one of them - but why did she think he would know anything?

She was beside the place he hunted, sitting with her tail curled around her paws as she peered to the heavens itself. Eyes glazing over, even though there was clouds over them ; they seemed detached to the ones over so. They loomed, strangely never moving and locked into the place itself. She could feel the chill rushing over, the slight static that drifted over even though it didn't seem like it would thunder above them.

"Do you think so?" A man of religion? "Perhaps it's their magic at work." The Goddess often did not toy with the world ; so she was told. A creator and mother, watching her children walk and learn, make mistakes. Try and guiding them to the light instead of the darkness, a desire away into the Summerlands for an eternal rest in her bosom..

But she knew not everyone thought the same. Wolves held different culture and religion, and though young as she may, she wasn't that naive.

^^There was lots of speculation about what could be happening up there, in the clouds. The shifts of temperature; the static in the air — what, or who, could be capable of such things, if not the gods?

But Goliath was not a religious man; moreso open minded and respectful of others’ beliefs, such as religion. So long as Goliath wasn’t bothered by the effects, though, he didn’t really mind what was going on. He liked to watch anyway, though.

“Perhaps; if that is what you believe,” Goliath would muse with the roll of his shoulders, glancing back to his reflection and the fish gathered at his feet. He licked his lips and lunged forward again, though with such force that he slipped and landed face first in the water.

"I wonder if it means it will rain.." She couldn't help say curiously, if the clouds would ever come and brush them with a shower. He hunted as the phenomenon happened within the backdrop, but she continued observing so with such a faint curiosity. Even when her fur rose from the slight static in the air, she couldn't help but wonder whether that meant the sign of thunder was soon arriving.. Such an oddity she couldn't help but think, for all the right feelings and motions of a coming storm were here, but it never came.
