Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

All of this walking through land that looked exactly the same was starting to get boring. He had hardly even seen any other living creatures since he'd gotten there - no friends or family, which was concerning, to say the least. It made Kenta's skin crawl, half-expecting someone to pop out with a cry of Otter! at any moment.

But it hadn't happened yet.

Thinking about Kei had been a strange thing as well. It wasn't as though his cousin was never on his mind, but he hadn't actively thought about her this much in over a year. It was strange. This whole thing was strange. His only conclusion was that he must've stepped through a portal somewhere without knowing.

Stopping by a small, trickling stream, Kentaro leaned down to lap up some of the cool water. The little wolf was oblivious to his surroundings, but that was hardly a new thing for the young man, who tended to go through life uncaring of who approached him.

For the first time since settling, he ventured a short distance beyond the key and into the pass. It was a new stretch of territory, but vital to understand if they were to keep the home of the order protected.

The grassy plateau seemed to stretch on forever, but it certainly was a peaceful place.

Though, that changed when Taka caught sight of a form leaning over a nearby stream. His lip hooked upward, teeth just barely showing. While this place wasn't officially claimed as theirs, he was still wary given that the key wasn't too far off.

For a moment, he watched from the heightened spot in silence, overlooking the stranger in an attempt to figure out whether or not they might be approachable.

Lifting his head, Kenta took a look around, curious. This place seemed desolate, empty, devoid of anything interesting, but surely that wasn't the case. Surely he hadn't been dropped into a land where no one else existed, right? If that was the case, he'd have to go back, because while he liked the general freedom this change of scenery afforded him, he did not like being alone.

And then he spotted the figure up the hill, and Kentaro did not need to wait and see if he was friendly to approach.

"You have no idea how glad I am to see someone else out here," he blurted instantly, tail waving behind him as he approached with no regard to personal safety. There was a broad grin on his maw. "Where am I? What is this place? Who are you?" The questions were asked in quick succession - not aggressive, but eager.
