Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

 Falling.. He was falling.

Bright golden eyes focused as the mountain was getting smaller. As he tried to scream for any sort of help. Anything to catch him, anything. Begging for a savior. But alas, it was to no avail. Soon there was nothing but darkness. The mountains, the forest. The valley he called home was no more.

Everything turned to black.

Moss.. Moss patted the ground. But.. But it wasn't freezing cold? It.. It was wet? Upon opening his eyes, golden optics checked his surroundings. A forest. A mixture of what appeared to be evergreens and leafy trees.

Golden eyes darted around him. He wasn't.. This wasn't home. This wasn't the valley.

Did he die?

No.

No, that's crazy.

No way could he be dead. Not Bartholomew. The tall wolf would wobble his way up to his big paws. Muscles ripped under his fur. All the pain.. There was none. As if, there was nothing. Where the hell was he?

And where was his son? Did he survive? Surely he did. This was all just a dream right?

A dream.
Right.

Haku wasn't sure where to go. Wasn't sure where she wanted to be. Akashingo was behind her - she remembered the name at least, - but she had no clue what was ahead. Time would tell if she would go back to the desert or keep walking. Never before had she been given so much freedom - had she taken it with her own paws. No, no one had given her this. Haku had made this happen on her own terms.

This was a gift. She would not squander it.

The forest she wandered through was damp and quiet. As far as she knew, she was the only one there. This wasn't an unwelcome thing in the slightest - in fact, Haku embraced it with open arms.

She paused mid-step as a scent suddenly invaded her nostrils - as though it had appeared from thin air, another wolf was in the vicinity. Haku paused for a moment before deciding to follow the trail, pausing once more at the sight of him.

Tall, dark-furred, not too unlike herself. Green eyes narrowed just slightly before she perked up a bit. Maybe this wolf had just appeared out of nowhere - after all, that was what happened to her. He'd landed in a better spot than she did, though.

"Hello," she greeted calmly, testing the waters. "Have you been here long?"

Bartholomew | 3-3-3 OC

Bartholomew alerted to try and stand up, his paws wobbled under him. A cough uttered from his jaws. It took him a second to realize another was heading his way. A foreign smell. A scent he hadn't realized. Granted, none of the smells he knew. Everything smelled unlike anything he'd ever seen.

The surroundings around him were decently bright in color, yet he didn't see any sign of his son. Who was with him on his journey.

“Am I dead? This isn't where I was...” His voice seemed uncertain. Unknown to see where this.. New wolf was. Like he was trying to understand himself. Did he die? Where was his boy at?

The others voice startled him. Causing him to jump slightly. But a smile plastered his face. Oh! Oh, thank the gods! Someone else was here. They could help. Well.. he couldn't help her. But maybe she could help him.

“I'm afraid I just arrived.. poorly. Do you know where we are?” He questioned with a cough, a shift of his paws to look at her. Bartholomew waited patiently, a swift sway of his tail. Surely she could help him.
