Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She was perhaps a bit too eager to go. For whenever she got the chance and her mother could not bring her out, Ara would find someone else. She was a demanding child, and neither was she using many words to commence what she so wanted — as she didn't particularly feel they were necessary. So the little devil approached another, remembering the smaller brown female who brought a skull to present in front of them..

She searched through the area, finding her afar and approached right in front of her. A golden eye looking at with a calmnity, but still overall a puppy and moreso a pleading look even if it wasn't intentional. She raised her paw and pointed toward the river that streamed through the mountain, "go there." she said at @Leta

Leta hung around the rendezvous, waiting for a moment such as this. Leta already knew the rules, so to speak, having spoken to Hydra at length before about them. Today was the day Ara approached her, and Leta's tail waved as Ara did as though to encourage her. When Ara spoke, Leta looked to Hydra, who she heard address Ara in her low, expectant voice: “your manners,” as, even despite not minding the demands Ara made to others and letting them field her displays, it seemed Hydra would not tolerate her doing so lacking in decorum.

She lingered, waiting for Ara to respond how she might, but had decided, “I'll take you, if you say please,” in case Ara did not recall what manners were. No doubt Hydra provided the cubs with thousands of lessons... but how did they retain it all? Leta knew it was possible, having grown up from cubhood herself... she wondered if she would be as good as a mother as Hydra. Leta had known that the second she had seen those puppy eyes of the sister of Osiris, she would comply with whatever was asked of her. But she would never undermine her leader.

“Can you swim?” she asked Ara next, already knowing the brook was no drowning hazard... but maybe she could teach her something, too?

She was growing to a little monster with her commands, and perhaps Hydra was starting to realize her manners were flacking entirely, as she was given a correction. Her ears flattened slightly as she looked at her mother with a puppy-gaze, like a child whose favorite toy was taken away. She never heard her say please, so why did she have to? Even the one who brought the skull had mentioned she would if she mentioned the words, it brought a rather disdainful look to Leta — but didn't last long as she grungily said with a, ".. please," fully expecting her mother to give a nip and a glare if she continued with such rude traits.

Then Ara shook her head, having no concept of swimming and gradually nodded her head to one side in a question.

Leta did not miss the look the cub gave her, and withheld a grin. Ara was going to be a fierce one, she was willing to bet. “Of course,” she accepted then, hearing the magic word and sensing Hydra's gaze shifting. Ara could not swim, and so Leta would not take her to the river today. “Then before we go to the river, I can help you learn how. Swimming is the way we can move in the water...Different than walking. It's good to know,” she said with a wave of her tail. “Some are born knowing how, but some need to learn. We can figure that out today on our adventure,” Leta suggested with a wave of her tail, “but you need to be brave, and strong too, okay? Are you both of those things, Ara?”

She hoped to tempt the Ostrega girl with this adventure and make it far more appealing than the river she had  pointed out. Honestly, with what she had planned,  she had a pretty good feeling she could keep Ara occupied. The cub seemed to appreciate strength at least, and she could get those legs strong through practice in swimming too, Leta imagined.

She looked at Leta and listened, not realizing her mothers gaze was shifting over. They hadn't learn how to swim, and it seemed she wasn't able to go just yet, which made Ara frown. Though all hope wasn't lost, for the brown-rabbit lady offered to do some teaching. Though it wasn't the matriarch.. It was someone she saw was accepted, as a pack-mate, and was allowed to be with the children ; that meant it was okay, alright?

Though all was forgotten when the other challenged such words — Ara thought she was the bravest of her siblings. They usually kept quiet, except for Raiden who sometimes protested, Scorpius who was a sleeze (she hasn't forgiven the sneak attack).. Occasionally her sister though tried to fight as well ; but couldn't say much about her other two. It was a shrug off her shoulders about them.

The daredevil nodded, a tag of the wail as she was fully ready to accept that challenge. A pull-over on her siblings, for she'll be the first to learn! At least she thinks so.
