Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Kentaro had wandered. This was not an exceptionally rare thing. What was rare about it was that he'd apparently wandered far. Far enough that he no longer knew where he was or where, exactly, he was going. The crash of waves was a familiar sound in his ears, but the earth beneath his feet was not. He did not know these trees, these smells, this ocean.

It had been a blip. A moment where his eyes had shut, just for a second, and the entire world had become something new.

For several long moments, he stopped. Stared. Wondered.

What was he doing here, exactly? The reason for his wandering seemed to elude him, clouding his mind, halting his sure steps. The strangeness of the isles he existed on seemed to permeate his very core, unsettling and somehow simultaneously trying to convince him that he had always been here.

But he hadn't.

The image of Kei popped into the back of his mind, which was strange, because he was pretty sure he hadn't seen her in years. Was he looking for her? The memory of her banishment still stung in his chest - he hadn't spoken up when he should have. Hadn't stood up for what was right. He'd tried to fix it - to find her - multiple times in the past, but none of his searches had come up fruitful.

Maybe... he'd been looking for her?

That sort of sounded right. But why here? And wasn't it weird that he was alone?

Taking a deep breath, Kentaro tilted his head back, and shouted at the top of his lungs:

"HELLO???"

Surely someone would've heard that.

When he awoke some sort of awful, shrill - and borderline girly scream would erupt from his vocals as baby blue eyes blinked down at...paws? He blinked those perfect eyes, his ears...moving atop his head he would quickly swat at them. Arrête ça! he demanded. Ever so slowly did he rise ─ stumbled and tripped over his own feet. Falling flat back down onto his chest and chin. “Ow...” he whined staring helplessly at the wilderness that sprawled out before him.

This...had to be a dream.

It was the only logical explanation. And besides he ─ he was trained. He could do this. The boy huffed, shaking the pout that crept to the edge of his lips as he slowly pushed himself back upright, shaking any debris from himself. Frédérune had to look presentable; even if he was a beast right now in this strange dream world.

But he would wake up soon.

So he righted himself and tried again to get up; ignoring how un-dream like this body felt. "HELLO???" the man jumped slightly at the shout, flinging himself toward the sound; and almost back to the ground again. Pourquoi cries-tu? he asked, forgetting to use common as he strode towards the loud one, his blue eyes narrowing on the other critically.

@Kentaro

Ah. His shouting had worked.

A frankly striking wolf approached him, all draped in gold and sand. A man - or... boy? - around his age. Taller than Kentaro, but that was not necessarily a difficult feat to accomplish. He looked almost regal, gilded, posture straight and eyes narrowed into chips of blue, like Kenta's presence - loud as it was - was offensive to him directly.

The boy questioned him in a language he did not understand, vocals heavier and throatier than he was accustomed to. Not a bad sound, but an unfamiliar one, and for a moment Kentaro was taken aback, unsure exactly how to respond.

"Sorry, but I... don't know what you're asking me," he admitted finally, not embarrassed, but blunt. A little concerned, even, that he'd possibly been transported into a world where no one spoke the same language as him. Perhaps he should try his other tongue, if they did not know common?
