Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

As she watched the boy cross through the stone path, the occasional wave testing him so.. She followed behind, a cautious eye so that he did not fall further. It almost seemed he wasn't used to his body, clumsy as it was. Though the fog was lifting the more they walked forward, as Vendrussel looked back to the now distant beach. They walked past to the serpentine rocks, legs and paws be wet as the waves crashed behind her, urging him to go faster before the tides grew too high.

"This is my groups isle, we are Dragonford," as they reached the shore of the isle, "you can stay until otherwise, as one of us," and looked at him, "what is your name, boy?"

It wasn’t an “easy” journey by any standards, but Jósteinn had fun with it. And with the blue lady, he didn’t feel quite like he’d go for an unplanned swim.

“Jósteinn! Jósteinn Tasunka Eachann-Gautstafrson!” He said, tongue stumbling over the harder syllables in his full name as he tumbled along at the speed the blue lady was pushing him to speed along at. These new legs were weird, but strong!

“But’cha can call me Jos if that name is too long! My brother did!” He was here now, he guessed, in the Dragonford Isles. At least one of those words was familiar in some way, and he couldn’t tell you which to save his life.

For someone abandoned he surely held a long name, which questioned further if he was a wandering lost boy, or truly was. He managed to cross the land nicely though with difficulties. A sign to be at least, that he was able to survive with them. Only a young age of three Vendrussel had to give more slack then usual, for he didn't grow up with them and their hardy ways — it was enough he crossed and found the rightful path, "Jósteinn," she repeated, sounding out the pronouncation.

"I am Vendrussel, the Alpha of this land. You'll be under the care of all who is within the ford," though no one was at the beach for the time being.. Smells of sea-salt wolves hung within the air.

Oh, blue lady did in fact have a name that wasn’t blue lady. He gave a friendly little grin, perhaps a bit subdued.

“Its nice to meet you.” He said, as if just remembering his manners. Maybe he had. He looked ahead of him, eyeing the land around him. There was scents here (and wasn’t that odd, to not have the fleshy nostrils he remembered) that seemed…familiar, in the way Vendrussel was becoming. Must be the other wolves.

“Who's everybody else?” And where were they?

"A pleasure," she said, a small smile as she craned her neck down just a bit too offer a more friendly appearance. Proud as she may be, the woman was not an entirely chill to personality, but to those who stray too close.. A touch of aggression needed as tensions continued to rise — casting away of those upon her beaches and islands, unless they desire to join her ford. Though damnation, for not many strays for that purpose and but wandering ways. A tail of irritation, though the continual smile remained.

"There are some to remember.. @Kei, @"Wither", @Belial, @Aarkron. In due time, you'll see them." Vendrussel gazed around, she could smell them lingering at the isle but knew not of their location. She would be wise to warn not to stray too much onto it, for those not completely trusted yet are sentenced to the beach, a vigil, for those like child who appeared — a warning to leave, or join the fray.

"Welcome to the Dragonford," she said, properly greeting.

Jósteinn nodded to Vendrussel’s names, trying to commit them to memory that was more suited to fantasies and fairytales than names at the moment. His eyes trailed to the sky.

“Thank you…again.” He said, flashing a great smile. He’d need to become the best boy ever to thank the nice blue lady who’d taken him off that beach.

wrap?"

"There are caches where you are free to take food — though hunt for yourself at times and if need lessons any can provide." Some may not be particular skilled in the hunt, though as wolves do, they all knew it. It was but a basic function to being alive and especially if wandered away from the pack — they have the ability to survive a few days without a feast, but in the end it was always a must need learning. She found it upon herself to train this child at least just a bit — even in the future that would be unavaliable to do paw-on-paw training. Only but instructions.

"Come, let's find you a den."
