Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

As a note: dated for the 25th, after passing through Highvalley Hollow. For @
"Ira" but any other of the pack free to join.

Ragnar went beyond. Beyond the trading alliance they had with those settled in Cloudrest. Beyond the everfrost he had come to a number of times before. This time, Ragnar finds himself seeking the very region which he had awoken to, the forest run.

That morning Ragnar's pass through the valley hollow had not gone uneventful. Where once there was little in the tundra, there was now many and many packs. Ragnar was 50/50 with this. There was many opportunities for both allies and enemies and though Ragnar enjoyed a good raid and fight, he wasn't quite used to being on the loosing end. He would now, with how small his family was and had even further been.

And this was the start of it. The Run which he had awoken. He breathes deep the forest scents as he wonders along. Deer a few days past, fresh rabbit tracks scurrying through the woods and of course many scents of wolf. He wondered then, hoped even, he might find @Ira here. This place he had woken to had both brought him to find a new home for his pups and had both ripped him from his familial connections. Being an Archer had been easy. Being a Stormborn had far more trails.

Another day, another time to continue loitering around for any those passing by their claim. It irked her, how many ventured to the run that had been claimed as the Vanderfell hunting grounds. Though passing by would be fine, she couldn't help but notice many attempted to hunt further, or wander in a bit too friendly to her liking. Orlaith was hostile and protective, especially to what was hers and the group she aligned with — a loyalty to be, she would chase some monstrosities off even if it meant death.

"Halt stranger," and when she spotted, a golden man in the distance.. Her head rose high with bit a guard, pridefully walking toward him with a tail flickering in an dominating pose, "you are in Vanderfell territory," Orlaith said, a scrutinizing look toward him, demanding what he is doing so. She expected an answer.

Ragnar kept on the move. He did not want to appear as though he planned to hunt closely to another's claim. It was after all a land directly aligned with another pack's territory. It made him think of those on the black rock islands with a sneer.

He found the patch of area where he had thought was where his family had awoken. He sniffs the ground, their scents long gone. He stopped still, however (halting as commanded), at the voice of another and after a pause turns up his crown to see another's approach.

She was a very tall and very well curved woman all around and she was beautiful. Her head and tail with with dominance, words demanding and forest green eyes sharp on him.

“Yes, your hunting grounds, as an extention to your mountain.” He spoke and with it, lifted his muzzle towards the mountains of Vanderfell. Of course, the woman, being just of this pack, certainly knew well. Ragnar was not here to challenge their extention of lands but to allow her to know he knew of them well and the rules of them. “My family and I had our Awakening here. Your Queen was kind to us all then, helpful for us to go on our way. I thought I might visit, already so much time has passed.”

"If you know, then perhaps it's best to call for one instead of wandering in." She narrowed her eyes and looked at him, stating what was the obvious onto the hunting grounds they claim. She saw it as someone reaffirming it wasn't their land, but just their hunting grounds — and Orlaith did not appreciate. Especially as he knew so and yet, continued loitering around the place rather the call upon those who own the territory.

"She is unavaliable right now," the guard said wiith a snort, but not expressing why. All that were within their pack knew she was with children, and only recently given birth to them.. Her leaving to talk to but a stranger? Laughable. Even though they held some history, she had no heard of him nor' his family, and thought so mockingly, he held himself highly.

Orlaith was not a nice wolf, especially to those who were within Vanderfell land, and not part of them.

"If you need something, @Hieronymous, the King is available." Yet someone who attested to knowing the High Queen, was not someone she could just push away. The King, much to Orlaith's dismay, was available to answering within Ira's place — so was assumed.

Gonna go ahead and wrap this up!

Ragnar had not expected her to know him or his family. After all, he hadn't even introduced himself for her to know if her leader had ever mentioned him or not. For Ragnar all the same, this woman here was a stranger to him. One which didn't take kindly to any sort of visitor of their claim, friendly or not.

So, with her rude snort towards him, saying that her leader was unavailable, Ragnar was left with only disappointment.
“No, that is quite alright. I've no business to attend to. Only a simple visit.” He didn't know the king at all and figured catching up with someone wouldn't actually work if he wasn't being faced with that person.

“If you would, tell her the Stormborns stopped by. We've found settlement on the coastal mountains to the west.” He realizes then, he had not introduced himself at all, leaving the guardian unaware of who he was from Adam. Hopefully though, Ira would remember the norse family who had 'appeared' at her doorstep some time ago.

With this message given, he dips his blonde chin and makes way off from which he came.

She felt suspicious by this fellow, but did not say so. Normally those who seek out the Queen have something in mind, as he didn't pertain in talking to herself.. Though she was hostile to him, and didn't allow such a humorous conversation to fully flow. It seemed he was just informing though of his claim elsewhere, as she gazed past by him to the suppose area where the coast was. She knew beyond the other side was endless plains and above was a tundra, even further down was just more and more mountains.. Surely, west, was it?

"I shall tell her," Orlaith said with a nod.
