Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Rannoch and @Uriel headed in the direction of where they had settled since coming together as a group. It wasn't too far from where they had met the red-coated woman, and with the way he hurried, it didn't take long for them to arrive.

@Sindri didn't seem to be around, and he took a moment to catch his breath before calling for her. His howl stressed his urgency, and he hoped that she would come quickly. Once he had sent up his message, he turned to Uriel, silently questioning what she made of all of us.

A soft humming could be heard as the healer dug up a few roots that she knew by scent, ginger which could be found almost anywhere. A plant that she knew from experience that it was bitter to the taste but helped with a few things, when put into water it would help with nausea and can also help in other ways as well. The other plants she already had in her pouch were the usual suspects, lavender, echinacea, and marigold. To make sure her nose was correct she took a nibble of the root she just dug up, yep, that was ginger. She gave a grimace as she used the ground to get most of the dirt off of the roots, this was a good find.

Just then a howl came, urgent and calling for her. With an alarmed look on her dark sand colored face she put the root in her pouch and picked it up to carry it to the location she was summoned to. Her petite paws brought her swiftly to both Rannoch and another female, golden and white with silver eyes. A heartwarming smile was directed towards towards unknown woman but her attention went back to the man of gray and white. She tilted her head in both worry and curiousity to the way he had called her.

"Rannoch, vhat is it?" her icelandic accent thicker with her worry, setting the pouch down before she spoke.

"Perhaps it is best we search elsewhere, as much as this place is peaceful.." As Rannoch and herself walked through, Uriel said to him. Though may long for a home she did not wish to fight for what was already claim — especially since her ties to the everfrost were currently so little, it did not seem worth it. A smile of just a bit of pity, as she waited moments more for him to call for the other.

"Though their claim is rather delicate," thinking how they did not smell neither's markings, wondering where she had missed, "nonetheless, it is their home and seemingly, with a few." One wolf to call it anothers, a gatekeeper of these tundra lands — who else was within them? Serving under a Lord they did not meet, only here by name.. He had gathered some under these evergreens, surely.

Though more of the conversation would be continued as the other companion came to, and by a coincidence, also carried a warm pelt. As the woman directed Rannoch in particular, she only smiled, a nod in greeting and awaiting for him to continue on.

Some part of her felt.. Rather ignored, as not only did Valmua directly continue speaking to Rannoch, the woman before her did as well.. Though Uriel did not comment, quietly wondering if there was something perhaps unpleasant about herself to get this coincidental behavior.

Others are still welcome! Just wanted to get this moving!

Uriel stepped up and filled Sunneva in, and Rannoch nodded in support. "I had no idea that it was claimed," he admitted, his ears flattening. "I wouldn't have wanted to stay if I'd known that." His stomach twisted with guilt, and he glanced away for a moment. When he looked at his companions again, Rannoch asked, "You guys hadn't run into any markings, right?" He trusted that they would have told him, but he had to make sure.

Steadying his nerves with a sharp breath, he elaborated on the reason why they had summoned Sunneva. "One of the wolves that claim this land told us that it would be wise to head east and that her leader," Lord Khun, he remembered distinctly, "Would grant us safe passage while we left." Still, they needed her input.

"We don't want to make any decisions without you, so we wanted to see what you thought of all of this—and if you would travel with us if we decided to seek a new home elsewhere."

She gave the golden woman a smile, realizing she did not greet her of even direct the question to the two of them rather than just Rannoch. This was very rude of her in her opinion and she would have to rectify this when something like this situation happened again, address the group and not just an individual but she would dwell on that another time. Instead she took in the information that was given to her, this land that she found resembled her home as of old was not theirs to claim. There was someone else that called this forest of ice their home and so they had been asked to leave or so she gathered, and until then they would have safe passage as long as they left in a timely manner. Or so her thought to herself, the healer felt that this unknown being was only being courteous because there were three of them and not just a singular canine to drive out.

When asked about scent markers she could only shake her head, no, she had not found any of those around the forest or else she would have suggested that they leave. She was not one to intrude on those that claimed the forest as theirs, she did not want a fight over something so trivial. After all they were simply a group that came together over a common interest and want for companionship. Why would she be so bold to take land from another? When the first wolf she met sense waking up in this strange land was done speaking she gave her opinion, her thoughts, and her confirmation.

"I vould go vith you, I think this vould be a good idea if there are others that claim this forest as theirs. It's not like ve vere here first. i know of nothing but this forest but together ve can find a suitable home vithout another's claim" Her accent came out stronger as she spoke, her tail waving from side to side behind her as she looked from Rannoch to Uriel. She was with them, wherever there were to go.

"Surely it is a new claim," she reassured as Uriel shook her head to confirm his words — she did not smell any borders. Though there was the regular of wolves coming and going as well as other beasts that wander through the tundra, in the end she did not find anything solidifying like a claim of sorts. In the end it may be new, but it was still a factor that they were the first and had full rights compared to themselves. It seemed no one in their group had the heart to truly fight for something another claimed, and only they recently discovered. It was thankfulness, that they weren't completely attached to the area.

"Then it seemed we are in an agreement," she said, smiling at the two, "perhaps we should rest for the day and head out within the next to prepare for the journey." Uriel advised feeling it was well-suited to rest-up on the rather emotional damage that they took, and prepare for the next travel. They knew not of the terrain that soon would be faced, and the golden woman was someone who rather be prepared then to completely venture into the unknown. It was important, to care for one's own health.

They were in agreement and Rannoch couldn’t be happier. ”I’m glad,” he said, looking to each of his companions.

Uriel then mentioned taking time to rest, and his ears flattened. ”Do you think they’ll let us?” he asked, his ears slicking back. Lord Kuhn had been merciful in allowing them safe passage while they left—but Rannoch wasn’t sure if that applied to tomorrow as well. They had given the impression that they’d be out quickly.

”Maybe we leave the forest and then rest?” he suggested, not wanting to test their luck.
