Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Icarus wasn’t one to be serious in a serious situation now was he? His head could be seen just above the water as he swam and kicked his way through the torrenting waters and onto the rocks that protruded from the water as if they’d been reaching for something, somewhere, a long time ago. His manic smile was something to behold though, even as he gulped mouthfuls of salty water down his esophagus and simultaneously attempting to spit the foul tasting liquid back out. He’d been swimming for almost a half hour when he finally saw the other shore that rose up and out of the liquid.
Finally, his paws touched solid ground and slipped and scurried across the dreary formation and under a small overhanging that just barely cleared him from the drizzle and sea spray. What was he even doing over in this washed out pile of rocks anyhow? He’d not had much of a reason beyond that he’d heard of some dragons being seen around here. The dragons apparently weren’t there though, so even as he watched with wide eyes a large figure emerge from the fog of rain, his brain couldn’t comprehend someone else being stupid enough to swim all the way out here.

She was not expecting a snake within the water, though upon her rock that laid to the shores - how could one not notice that of an white stripped man swimming to the shores. Most she would meet to the beach itself, though such a man wandering far too deep into the Dragonford territory brought that of a wariness, and a slight hostility. She prowled off the rock, approaching a man who held a bit too much of an eerie smile ; something you'd fear within the night itself, and while it did not bring a fear.. She could feel her fur ruffle in hostility, a guard against.

"You've wandered too close into Dragonford territory," she warned as a low rumbling growl emerged from her white throat.

[narrow width=300]The woman's gait was intimidating... on purpose, he assumed. If not then she was a force to be reckoned regardless of her temperament. How peculiar to see a female with so much confidence in herself. But that was only in his own experience, though he could tell she wouldn't tolerate any of his bullshit the moment she stepped from the dreary terrain.

"That was not my intention, miss... I've heard dragons are near 'round here, but I hadn't heard of them being the same looks as us, aye?" His speech would just barely be heard over the tearing noise of the sea. "'ve come from a pack of dragons meself, just lookin' for me pack," Icarus couldn't care to mask his Irish accent when speaking anymore, too tired to do so. "Didn't mean to trespass miss," He finished speaking, looking down at the ground with his ears laid back against his head in a slight mockery of submission. Best to get out a live than in pieces after all.[/narrow]

When she was getting closer, a gait of guard upon him, she was looking closer to the oddity that was his looks. A scrutinizing ocean gaze, as eyes wandered to his body of whites like the tundra, and yet touched with the faintest shade of morning pink spring, that too matched his eyes. He was skinny, and held between with oddity of 'stripes' like those of tigers, and they too were black. Though held no obvious indication he was anything other then a wolf, one that stepped far too close into the territory, and seemed to know a bit too much of them.

She wondered if perhaps others of her clan were laying about, wandering through and heard so. Though their name too, Dragonford Isles held such an indication to ties of the draconic knowledge. She gave it away to some but not all, and didn't question further.. Perhaps Vendrussel would need to tell the rest to keep their name but a secret unless upmost trust ; for though desperation for members, she cared more of loyalty then the number of many. A bond between, all the dragons that may be. She approached closer, head held high with a tail in domination, she obviously so, wasn't pleased he came so close to the isle. She was especially on guard due to others of Northfall origins, doing the same.

"Dragons are no longer here, only us who follow their path. You seek to join a pack, and you found one.." she licked her lips, "yet what do you have to offer to the ford?"

[narrow width=300]The woman's nearness now slightly intimidated him maybe a bit more than was worth... She was guarded, but perhaps he could run that to his advantage if needed. She'd probably ask that he leave should he not offer her what she wanted in return for joining such a pack. "I can fish rather well, wouldn't call meself a professional though," He smiled as he said it, eyes narrowed on the others scrutinizing gaze. "If that doesn't interest you I am well versed in herbs and foraging." His final offer. He couldn't offer much besides those two things, and he wouldn't want to anger the miss anymore than he already had by saying something bloody foolish, now would he.

"If you can swim, and fish, then follow me." With a wisk of her tail as she rolled her shoulders, the northern woman faced to the waters. Thunders roamed in the background as the sun was gradually setting, she could see the waters growing darker as minutes passed by. An allure to the unknown, and abyssal within there that she would dive into with a quick leap toward. When she emerged from it's depth, head above the water, she expected him to follow her, and wouldn't keep her eyes off of him until she saw his removal from the island.

Though where she was heading.. As paws gingerly started to pave way through the water, as toward the stoney rock in the distance. Gazing away from the mainland beaches and away from their own, hidden beneath all that seperentine rocks.. Vendrussel would take him there, though she mused slightly with a devilish smile on a newer trial to give.
