Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Outside of being bored as absolute fuck, she had no reason to be out and about. Her encounters with others had been limited, and she was far too social of a creature to be kept locked away from everyone -- not that she was being locked, exactly. She just hadn't fuckin' seen anyone. Midnight grumbled to herself as she walked, tail swinging lazily behind her as she went.

The shadowy wolf scented air, drinking in the crisp and clear morning air. The tundra would always have her heart, though being a dark blemish among the pristine snows made it difficult to hunt. She managed as always, however, and turned to pursue the trail she had just picked up on.

Sindri did not know how much longer her family's hold on the mountains of Northfall would last. She did not know if in knowing her family would not back down, if they would survive. The Sheildmaiden feared no death, though she would be unwilling to have her children meet the afterlife yet. So she left home, to seek out her allies and to gather forces.

Here, she found Midnight.

“Hail, Northerner.” She speaks, calling out over the winds of coming winter, to the dark shadow amongst blinding white.

Hail.

Midnight paused, her ears drawn forward in surprise at the abrupt voice. She blinked at the stranger and glanced to the sky above, squinting through the mist and drizzle. "No, there's no hail. It's just rain. You alright?" the unsophisticated woman asked without an inkling of how ridiculous she sounded. Hail was the weather and nothing more, so she wasn't entirely positive what was happening. Still, her concerned expression was just that -- concerned. She'd stick around to help if need be.

The other turns, but with confusion, turning up to the skies to look. Sindri is left to return the same confused expression until it dawns on her what the other is speaking of. Oh. That was definitely mistaken.

Sindri shakes her head at the misunderstanding, a small smile over her creamy lips. “I greet you.” She explains, though her northern accent thick Sindri thinks the other would understand her. Her common has been well practiced. “I am Sindri Swiftkill, of house Stormborn.”
