Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Ara didn't like to speak unless it was said rightfully. When she tongue-tied, it didn't feel right, and when hearing her mother pronounce rightfully.. She simply chose not to speak unless could properly form. Though that didn't stop her silent communication, as the dark child would loom in the background of the cave, a glaring to her siblings in an eye of 'who to choose.'

She chose @Nysa as her victim today. With a little too much energy, Ara came at her with a fury of a tackle, as she wanted her sibling to submit to her strength.. Show mom, she was learning!

Ara took Nysa by surprise. She had been preoccupied, as she had been gnawing on a bone. Her gums were sore; their teeth had been growing in, and today they were aching.

She tumbled over with a squeak, feeling her sister's sudden and unexpected weight crash into her. Once she landed on her back, Nysa retaliated. She wasn't one to submit, and instinctually, and she knew she had to fight for her place among her litter. With a growl, Nysa thrust her snout towards Ara's closet paw and tried to grab it.

Ara felt rather smugly to have landed it so after previous failed attempts from the other siblings. Though Nysa, wasn't one to give up and was prompted to get back up and attack at her feet. She could dodge, but mind was faster then true body and let out a whip when her sister attacked her by the paw. She didn't like that, and wanted to push over the tawny one away from her paw, though could feel those baby teeth upon her toes.

Momentarily remembering what their mother said.. To think, and when she thought of it, Ara tried to move away and create a distance between the two. She was trying to create a stand-off.

Her children seemed to grow feisty with the arrival of their teeth. Bolder. She had taught them how to soothe their pains in some ways—through worrying at a good bone, for instance—though there was still ample energy to spare, and this was placed as of late upon one another. This was typical, at this age, as they figured out their places in their own self-made hierarchy; the matriarch would not intervene in these times, but watch with interest. Things changed by the day, and sometimes the hour.

Like Nysa, Hydra gnawed at a bone. But her own eye was watchful upon Ara, who she observed deliberate. Hydra, too, wondered who the darkblade might test today. Silently, she watched Ara determine who. Nysa, it looked like. Hydra taught them much, but they would teach one another plenty too in these moments. Nysa would learn not to do things without being mindful of her surroundings. If it was not Ara who took advantage of that, it may well be someone else with far more malevolent intent.

Ara had the advantage, catching Nysa successfully off guard. Nysa, however, fought back. Hydra was pleased to see Nysa seem to know what to do then—perhaps from her own observations of her sister and brothers. And Ara, for her own part, would not lose a limb for her proper thinking were this a true battle. “Good, my daughters,” she drawled. Licking her chops, Hydra wondered if they both might have the mind and spirit for battle... and imagined what they might do and accomplish together, someday.

This was where all that would begin, Hydra knew, and returned to her bone. Her attentions were upon her daughters, though not entirely; she remained attentive to the others, and the world outside.

“Good, my daughters,” Hydra praised. Nysa knew better than to acknowledge her mother now. She was in the middle of a fight, and Ara would have more of an advantage. She couldn't let that happen if she wanted to win.

When Ara tried to create distance between them, Nysa also thought. She knew she couldn't let that happen, so she bit harder, locking on like a piranha.

If she could not escape that easily, Ara would make a sharp turn to lock her own snapping jaws against her sister. She was rather reluctant to give in, and even flee at that matter. When she heard such a phrase of proudness coming forth from their matriarch, she of course gained more an energy and started to force herself upon his sister, unknowingly gaining closer in a momentum as if she was trying to push the other. Though baby teeth that there was, she occasionally felt her sisters teeth graze upon her cheek.
