Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

 • There is no set activity requirement to write
 • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
 • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The loss of his children weighed heavily on him, though not in a sentimental fashion. It burned in his chest, a white hot fury. Caligula was angry, there was no doubt, at whatever fucking god above had slaughtered his blood before they had even been born. They had not died valiant or honorable deaths, had not been given the fucking chance to live up to their father's name or status. They had been a waste of time and energy and his blood boiled as he stalked across the mists, slavering for something or someone to sink his teeth into. Where was that bitch of his? He called for her, demanding she show herself and be a good girl. Caligula wouldn't hurt her too badly if she obeyed, though. Maybe.

Not wanting to be here in the first place, Maeve kept to her damn self. None of the members interested her and she simply kept an eye on any poisonous herbs and mushrooms she could find for... later use. She'd store them away as she found some, hoping to gather enough to use for her escape one day. Caligula hovering over her shoulder didn't help that plan, especially when he was such a brute each and every time they would meet.

However, lately he was away, and she was able to take a breather. Maybe if she was lucky, he had perished and she could walk out of here without a problem. But she wouldn't be so lucky. He called out to her, demanding to show herself - and as if she would be a good girl and approach. Like hell she would ever listen. Turning a deaf ear to his call, she'd continue on her merry way. Preening and grooming whatever she could reach innocently letting his voice fade out.

He shouldn't have been surprised. At the end of the day, he wasn't surprised by her lack of response -- only at how disappointed it made him. Since when had he started to give a fuck whether or not she answered him? Caligula exhaled a strained sigh as he scented the air to do things the old fashion way, turning to follow her trail. If she wouldn't come to him, he would go to her.

"Maeve," he called out, expecting the rustling of leaves to give her away as she scampered to evade him further. It was either that or she would stay where she was and accept the fact he was approaching; either way, he would find her.

Of course he wouldn't leave her alone. He called for her after all and if she ignored it, he would just come and find her. Fuck.

Well, peace was nice for a little while at least. She would finish grooming and began to get up, wondering if she could make it more difficult by just walking away. Unfortunately, she just wasn't fast enough.

Maeve could hear her name being called on that stupid dumb tongue of his, so when he came into view she would give him a faux surprised look. “Oh Caligula!” As if she didn't hear him calling for her just moments ago. “To what do I owe the pleasure?” The italics are her obvious lilt in her voice where sarcasm dripped through in a thick ooze.

She was standing with a clear intention on leaving. Caligula approached without much fanfare, relatively nonchalant despite his earlier venom. He was angry, yes, but the ghoul had little energy to waste it on someone quite so.. exhausting. The man was already exhausted enough without having to handle what was the equivalent of putting pajamas on a toddler, and so he stood there blankly as she was.. well, herself. He waited until she was finished with whatever she had to throw at him and then tilted his head, tail coming to sit idly by his hocks.

"You're free to go." There was no sign of anything other than complete sincerity on his face as he fixed his stare on hers, waiting to see if such a revelation would simply break her brain -- or if she would assume it was a trap.

You're free to go, he'd say. And her chocolate eyes narrowed in suspicion of the hidden meaning behind this. What did he mean by that? She'd twist her head oddly to view him with a single eye, unwilling to turn her back on him now and just take the chance as it was given. Did he mean it? Or was he pulling her leg?

Why the sudden change of heart? Something was off... she didn't trust him after all. Everything Caligula did had her suspicious of his motives.

“The hell does that mean?” She'd step a little closer, accusing him with both her posture and tone. “Why the sudden change of heart?” She wouldn't get too close, certain this was some kind of trickery of his.

Caligula expected nothing less than the vitriol she spat at him, though if he was being quite honest, she was going a bit light. He wondered why she had even hesitated at all to accept his offer -- why wasn't she running for the hills the very moment he had loosed her chains? Instead she moved towards him, her eyes filled with confusion and anger. Well, it was nice to see something else in there besides just fury -- shit, it was the first time he noticed that her eyes weren't just brown smears on her face.

"It means you're free to go, so probably get going before someone else around here takes you as their own." If she thought he was a cruel master, she was in for something of a surprise when another one of the monsters lurking nearby got their claws into her. They had stayed away only because she had been widely known to belong to the general, but now? Fair game. "Does it matter?" the man rumbled, lifting his lip in a callous sneer as she stared a gift horse directly in the mouth.

“I guess it doesn't.” Well that was a first. They agreed on something. No, it didn't matter why the sudden change of heart other than her expecting Ashton fucking Kutcher to come jumping out of the bush and saying this was all a cruel prank. With an annoyed and dismissive flick of her ear, she would then take a step back. One more as she kept her eyes completely onto him just in case he decided to do something within his character.

She'd wait a little while just to gauge his expression, his posture and everything. Nothing seemed to be strange, perhaps he was indeed being honest. That all of this just wasn't worth his efforts and she was indeed just free to go finally.

Did that mean he was off her list? Fuck no. The asshole would get payback for all of this eventually, it just seemed she was now able to do so without him hovering over her shoulder night and day. With a final sneer, she would back away further into the mist, keeping her eyes on him as she'd make distance before turning her back and walking out of the Nightwalker's realm...

Still, was this a trick?

No, it didn't matter. Even if he could sit her down and explain why he had decided to release her, there was no way she would understand. There was no undoing the things he had done to her, no setting back the clock to erase whatever trauma she had taken away from their encounters. Caligula had simply come to terms with that fact, and he did not stop her as she moved beyond him to exit the territory. He glanced over his shoulder to watch her go, wondering if she would spent the next several nights worriedly checking for signs of him pursuing. Don't get him wrong, he wanted to. He wanted to go after her and throw her down and take out all of his rage, but he didn't. The pale wolf simply turned and headed deeper into the territory, relinquishing his ownership on a woman that had every right to take the revenge she so hungrily craved.
