Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

While watching the other individuals present mingle with each other, Fergus felt the world vibrate around him. His toxic seafoam gaze drifted from place to place, focusing on everyone almost in turn. He stood on unsteady paws, stretched slightly with the popping of joints, before beginning to wander amongst everyone. He heard snippets of conversation, saw the smiles and laughs of others. His gaze drifted to the elk present, ears twitching slightly. Every part of him vibrated with the urge to chase them, to catch them, to feed upon them.

But, he wasn’t allowed to.

It was such a strange… strange concept. Why did these wolves follow such a strange thing that seemed to be against their very nature – the very logic between predator and prey? It felt almost like trying to go against the ocean’s ebb and flow as if trying to change the very tides themselves. But, they managed it and requested that others ignore their most basic instincts for a… party. How absolutely fucking weird. It made a quiet laugh bubbled from his charcoal lips.

In absent curiosity, he wandered towards the elk that crooned over the pups. His gaze lingered on the pups for a moment or two, watching their antics with a blank expression. He came to face the strange elk, with his blue eyes that Fergus had never seen the likes of before on the usually brown-eyed creatures.

”I have a… question for you.” He said, words slurred ever so slightly as they tumbled from his lips, tongue still thick in his mouth from his adventure into a peaceful revelation about the world and its ebb and flow that he – at the time – had been so goddamned aware of. He looked at the elk expectantly, waiting for his response, knowing full well that the beast could understand – and speak – the language of wolves, for he’d heard him only moments before.

well, let's see how this goes. xD

Laughter spun within his lungs, causing a float of his broad shoulders. Not many things in life accompanied him like that of the little voices he rested so lovingly beside. Each of them with their own blossoming personality, all so rich and unique as the velvet that coated their wriggling bodies. Warwick whimpered, @Vermillion would squeak, Roheisa ... He batted glossy optics atop her catastrophic descent into puppyhood. She emitted grunts akin to the little puffs of gas that lifted the Queen's tail when she thought he wasn't looking. She was so determined to reach her unconquered destination, who would he be to stop her?

His eyes had a wide angle of range, even as he turned his noggin to gently push @Warwick closer to his blossom, he still caught glimpses off the rolie-polie-olie child on her way to snatch the furs off of people. It was then that his further lense snagged the approach of a stranger, one smelling of foreign lands. Turning to face the lesser being, he pushed a fake smile to his face. Of course, it had questions for him, as he was a sight to see. “Ask away, just remember where you are and who you are.” It still didn't mean he wouldn't shove his antler up his asshole if he touched the children.

Her sister did not welcome her, but instead moved to take a swipe. Maral hadn't been expecting it. Her whole body jerked at the contact of Vermillion's paw on the Winter-white smudge atop her snout, which of course resulted in the immediate watering of wide blue-grey eyes.

The assault on her poor, sensitive nose was something she would remember, and the shadowy cub figured avoiding contact with any of her siblings was probably her safest option. On shaky limbs she slunk away, her tail still firm to her backside, to settle quietly in the background and try not to draw attention to herself.

Edith had felt no trepidation about leaving the family den—especially since @Vaskian and @Teodora were nearby. She looked around, taking in the newness of everything until her eyes fell upon a blurry figure among the wolves that stuck out like a sore thumb. It was @Beltegeuse
—a man with white fur and black brindeling. Edith had never seen anything like him in her short life. Edith continued to stare at him as their group settled near the base of the staircase. He made her feel uncomfortable, but somehow she couldn't look away.

She looked away from him when the festivities began. Célnes had little to say, and once she had finished speaking, the wolves dispersed to socialize among themselves. With the commotion happening around her, she forgot about Beltegeuse.

"Bwrrrr," Edith said as Célnes nudge her; she was motivated to get up and explore like the majority of her siblings. @Calhoun was the most interesting of her littermates—as she was quickly intrigued by the stone that he was sniffing, and she promptly decided that it was hers, and she toddled over towards him. When she stood next to him, she pushed in front of him without hesitation and picked up the rock.

She growled around the stone as she lifted her head, warning her brother that this was hers.

The elk lay with the pups, Fergus noticed, as if they were his. It was strange, he thought, that an elk would be so willing to babysit the offspring of the creatures that were inherently superior to it, that by nature would want to eat it when they grew bigger and grew to know what hunger was once, they no longer latched to their mother’s teat. Seafoam eyes blinked lazily, half-lidded eyes sliding over the elk’s figure with half-hidden curiosity. He wondered, did the elk think itself superior due to its size and its ability to walk amongst predators, or did it realize its place as lower, much like it was on the food chain? A snort came from the O’Conaill man, as his tongue lazily slid over charcoal lips to clean whatever drool may have dared to collect there.

The elk spoke in a deep baritone, but in such a tone that seemed… bored with the man’s presence. Fergus snorted slightly, deciding then that the elk thought itself – perhaps – some sort of God amongst mortals being able to walk around fangs that were made to flay its flesh from its bones. It was funny to the man. ”Ask away, just remember where you are and who you are.” The elk stated.

”Bold –“ Fergus sat heavily on the ground with a thud. ”- to say. Tell me, elk. Why the fuck do you babysit pups that would want to eat you, if not raised with the weird ways of this pack?” Fergus had never been one for tact, or subtlety. He was blunt and straightforward with his questions, not caring if he offended anyone. Granted, he couldn’t give a fuck less about whether he, in general, offended someone with his presence or words. That simply hadn’t been how he’d been raised amongst the ever-changing name of the Syndicate. Lachlan hadn’t taught his horde to be polite or politically correct, and certainly, with the likes of murderers, whores, and all manner of deplorables making up the pack, Fergus had never quite gotten the lessons in being well behaved. He’d always been an ill-tempered asshole since he’d learned how to speak.

thank you all for joining! Wrapping up the thread, feel free to make more threads and backdate them if so desired, but will be closing the main one!

As talks were wrapped up she turned to the group and announced, "Thank you all for coming. When more young ones arrive," she said, looking at her litter, "we will hold another event like so. In winter as well, and I hope you all can make it." She directed this at the Nightwalker wolves, valuing the relation that the two groups held. She would hope to invite them more as the days go by, and maybe so, in the future another alliance could join the festivities.

Though they may not particular like so, she wouldn't mind either if they refused her request. Formalities, and a stronger alliance toward the bonds between their wolves. The Queen looked at @Vengeance, a look that they were free to remain for the day, and then welcomed to return to their gloomy land. Overall it improved the mood ever-so slightly for herself, and hopefully to the overall atmosphere that Elkshire held for the past few days.
