The ever-shifting sands of the desert was their next destination, a swath of dark and shadowed gold stretched beneath the sky. Long had the desert existed, the creatures that lived here so much more vibrant at night. The deity that lived among the stars and galaxies so often spent the nights watching all the movement below: the bats, the reptiles, even their fellow canids. There was so much that happened after the sun went down and so few of them knew it.
Tonight was different. Tonight, the god wished they could have descended to the sands, leaping and playing among the dunes, diving around the cacti and batting at the tumbleweeds. Instead, they danced among the stars, a wispy thing, a shadow that flit through the night; if one blinked, Astra would be gone, moving through the deep blue-and-black sky as they fancied.
Morning was coming, though, and they had one last place to check upon before the fiery sun rose again. Wheeling around, the deity dove across the sky, a shooting star trailing in their wake as they made for the sea of trees beyond the desert.
