She roamed, endlessly.
Her paws carried her across the edge of the range, brushing up against trees and shrubs as she rubbed her neck and shoulders into bark. Small clumps of fur were left here and there, mixing with occasional drops of fluid marking. During her Queen's time in bed rest, they had to ensure the inner borders were airtight. Despite the sudden interest in the pack, they weren't exactly bringing anyone in just yet.
Which was a pity, in a way.
Her eyes trailed into the Range, wondering if any of those newcomers were around right now. She was curious about them.
Maybe she could meet them before the queen came out to bring them in. After all, who knew how long that would take? Until the pups' eyes were open? Until they walked? Until they were weaned?
Alas, despite her watchful eyes, the Range was silent. No deer, even, were around at this time of day. Despite the sky being thick with cloud, they apparently did not wish to graze within the depths of the field. No burrows of rabbits were noisily eating, none of the so called recruits were visible. Her ears pinned back and she turned from the dead and empty place, heading inland with a huff.
Perhaps it was a sign.
