Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The desert welcomed her in like a soft kiss upon her brow, icy chill of night reminding her of the stark difference that her home had to the worlds beyond the flatlands, where trees and moisture kept in warmth and kept out heat. Here, in her desert, her domain, she found refuge.

 Her trip had been... satisfactory.

The stink of heat long since washed away by water and sand, she returned with what seemed almost like a merry hop to her step, a saunter. She seemed, in all regards, like a cat who had gotten the cream. Oh, yes, the cream indeed.

She slipped over the lip of the Eye, moving down alongside the stone that might be considered a tear duct. Her paws led her onto the softened sand that time had forgotten, towards the rising peak of blackened stone that reached for the heavens but fell far short. Within this Pupil she knew, or rather, hoped, the scattered followers she had begun to amass would be residing.

Though, she supposed she couldn't call them all followers. Some were loyal, kin. Others would go for her throat if they felt it safe to. Others even... she could sense they believed themselves equal or even greater than herself.

She moved down towards the stone Pupil and stepped inside, walking along chiseled stone that no wolf could have done. “Anyone home?” she called in a lilted howl down into the belly of the temple, the optic nerve that spread out within like a labyrinth of tunnels and sanctuaries and rooms. This place was beyond anything they could imagine and so she had claimed it.

None answered, and so she rested.
