Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The ocean roared in his ears. This was how it should be, he recognized vaguely. Hawkes was meant for the shore, meant to inhale salty air and one day sink into the waters below. It had happened before, he thought, one or two lifetimes ago, and still the push and pull of the waves brought him in like a fish to bait.

Hawkes had never been to this place. He'd seen places like it, but never this exact one. At some point in his wandering the world had shifted a bit, had changed, without his knowledge. His mind adjusted quickly.

The island was lush and beautiful, even he had to admit, though the ground underfoot was rockier toward the edge, where Hawkes had found himself standing, staring out over the ocean below. How much of his life had he spent seaside? How much more would he? It was both a comfort in that it felt like home to him, and a bane, like a curse.

Inhaling deep through his nose, clean, cool air, Hawkes allowed himself a moment to relax on the cliffside. He would not stay long, more than likely. He never did. But this place was nice, and he figured it wouldn't hurt to take it in for a snip of time.

with their little declaration of ownership, it’s only natural to explore. for once, the Wayfarer takes his time turning over each stone—none untouched in his journey. he ends up circling towards the beach he emerged on. funny that, he thinks, to have memories of the place already ingrained.

 it all started here.

’cept something is new. the scent on the wind tells him it isn’t an acquainted face this time. his eyes drift upward, catching the figure that sat perched on the cliffside, overlooking the key’s shoreline. an eyebrow dare arch in the stranger’s direction.

just like the last, he gets a move on towards them. paws sink into sand that then turn to slick stone. the path upward is dainty and small for his stride as usual, but it’s becoming natural to him. another scary thought.

when he gets close enough, he opts to call out; “how long have you been here?”
