Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The stream of memories never ended. Even as the last ones swirled around her, they all just ran together and started over again. Good memories, neutral ones, and all of the bad ones. Where the memories ended, Kamaria began, and vice versa.

And then... something new. Something not a memory but an experience. A flash of light on the horizon, a swirl of leaves in the wind, a wolf asleep in a field of grass, her slumber something peaceful and serene. If only it would last.

Her waking was slow and steady, brows furrowing slightly before her eyes shuttered open to squint against the bright afternoon light. The soil, the grass, the air... None of it smelled like before. And none of it smelled like @Saira.

Saira!

Instantly, the honeycream creature was on her feet, looking wildly around for her sister. No sound left her lips, no bark or howl to call out. Just a frantic search for the only other soul that the girl trusted.

Would love to nab one of the Akashingo crew!

it was Khonsu that led her steps today, that had her voice lifted in prayer to Him—that she would find more of her people, and another place in which to build Him an altar to guide them home. with eyes closed did she walk, her guards and attendants keeping close to ensure she did not misstep—
not once did this occur. she followed the wing beat of her fledgling falcon, and once she was no longer upon the sands of the Oasis did her eyes open. her eyes adjusted to her newer surroundings, taking in only the frenetic and frantic movement of something in the distance!

When not patrolling or scouting for new findings yet discovered amidst the oasis, he kept himself close to the side of the pharoah. He was no queensguard, but the act offered some semblance of normality from his time as his former monarch's captain.

Following in the rear of the divine entourage, he kept watch over the group.

When they paused, his eyes fused upon the sight in the distance. He was just seconds away from side-stepping the group to check things out, but halted, awaiting a command to do so.

Can be cameo unless addressed!

She didn’t see them. The wolves. The bird. She didn’t see them at all. Didn’t hear them. And with them being downwind of her, she didn’t scent them either.

With their presence unknown to her, Kamaria thought she was alone, and so called out to her in a broken voice hoarse from disuse.

“Saira!!”

Tears prickled at her eyes, worried and scared.

Please note that Kamaria is deaf so her voice sounds abnormal! ❤️

what a strange noise! something like she had never heard came forth from the others lips, and Toula looked on with concern. “perhaps she is ill,” Toula considered this, and thought then—she must help this panicked denizen.
so she continued forward, moving slowly to allow the stranger time to note her approach. nothing about her showed that they recognized more than themselves existed—now she looked to her Mazoi and said to him, “approach her, to ensure this is no trick being played—do be careful, please!” her eyes were soft upon the warrior even as she commanded him.

He was commanded and moved swiftly, parting from the group.

Approaching the woman carefully, he eyed her warily. But with a closer look, he noted something. The word she'd spoken—no, name—sounded familiar.

“Who is she to you?” Saira, the girl he'd found before. Did this one somehow know her?

Movement.

Kamaria spun, staring wide eyed at the two, stepping back as one and then the other moved closer. Ears pressed back, disappearing against her skull, tail pressing close to her legs as she sank to the ground.

The man's mouth moved but nothing came to her useless ears.

Kamaria shook her head, staring up at him while a fine tremble shook her body.

she remained where she was, poised and quiet. the other woman appeared distressed, but Toula had been taught some level of caution. she would trust the report of her Mazoi, however.
no words had been spoken by the stranger, not beyond the garbled thing that the other she-wolf had said. she looked submissive, meek, timid… lost. it called to her heart! Toula awaited word from the guard that it would be safe for her to approach, not giving in to her own impulse.

The woman was confused. Her head shook.

Did she not speak, he wondered?

“I believe she is wordless, pharoah,” the mazoi advised, nodding to her in beckoning. It seemed safe to approach, but he would stay close, just in case.

He can be cameo from here once again!

Karamia stayed down, stayed low, stayed quiet.

Except for one mumbled and soft word.

Saira...

she moved forward, recognizing in her Mazois revealing to her that he deemed the one before them safe enough to approach. wordless, he said—and then she spoke a word they both would know, a follower within the desert.
Toula looked to the quivering thing and said with knowing, “Saira…” and then gestured toward the Oasis.

There was no look of confusion on either of their faces. Did they know her sister?? Did they hold her captive? Or did they give her a safe and warm place to stay? A gesture pointed back towards a direction that Kamaria hadn’t explored yet. Her ears lifted with her head, a hopeful look in her eyes.

Could she go with them and see her?

recognition—understanding? Toula did not know for certain. how much could be known? she saw the hope there, and so looked to the Mazoi. “journey ahead—collect Saira. let her know she is being sought, and detail this encounter. we shall head to the borders at a slower pace, and should they know one another, Saira will know to come,” Toula asks of the warrior, tasking him with this. there were other Mazoi to keep watch as they moved.
she would not endanger Saira, not if this was all some ruse… but Toula did not think that it was! the Pharaoh hoped to reunite two lost souls together, and was eager to do so; still, she exercised caution for her people. then she turns to the girl, nodding slowly, and gestures to her side.

At the pharoah's command, he dipped his head, then stood.

Departing without further word, he set off toward the heart of the oasis to seek out @Saira and bring her to the woman who claimed to know her.

the woman seemed to send the male away — to get her sister? — before making a gesture to the girl, an indication to join her, it seemed. slowly, tentatively, kamaria rose and took a step towards her. a pause, and she watched the woman to make sure if the movement was alright. when there was no indication that it was not, kamaria continued beside her, still hopeful, still cautious.

she said nothing else, only flicking an ear; it set the following members of her assembly to motion, with Toula at its center and the nervous one to her left. at least she was no longer shaking! they moved in a slow procession toward the Oasis.
