Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Snow peppered white fur soaking her warm flesh and making the Silverflame shiver for the first time in her life. Wolf or dragon, Endellion did not like the cold. Her body was curled into a tight ball, tail coiled around herself. Her nostrils flared and she exhaled warm air, wishing not for the first time that she still had fire to warm herself with. A rumble shook through her chest and grew into an irritable growl. She shook off another layer of frost and climbed to her paws. Too cold for sleep, the former dragon decided that exercise would warm her.

She began with a brisk trot through the forest, letting her senses guide over the land. As an aerial creature adapting to her nimbler land based body was a slow adjustment, but she was slowly coming to love the feel of the wind in her fur. Bounding over mounds of snow, she sped up, pushing her new body to the limits and charging ahead without restraint. A loose root hooked under her paw, sending the Silverflame flying, but not in the manner she wished for. The once great dragon crashed into a pile of snow and was swallowed beneath.

He'd been traveling for a couple of days with no end in sight it seemed. Dagda had yet to find a place he was willing to settle into and call home, and to be frank, he wasn't yet comfortable with the idea that he just somehow ended up here. He was very aware it was something he should grow accustomed to, but it proved difficult. Large paws carried him through the thick of snow. It engulfed his ankles, occasionally some would fall from the hovering trees and slap against his shoulders which would cause him to suck air between his teeth. The cold wasn't something he could find himself grow use to, but that wasn't different than anything else as of late.

As he continued he thought he saw someone off in the distance, though the pelt color meshed with the snow slightly, it was hard to tell. It wasn't until they took off running that he knew there was someone else here, and so he stopped his travels momentarily. It was only his intention to pass through so he would wait patiently until the other did so first. That was until they took a tumble and landed right into the bank of snow.

Ears flicked back and he was quick to make way to their location, “are you okay?” he offered, but did not reach out to touch the stranger. He was still unsure of others, just like this place, so Dagda did his best to tread carefully.

The mound of snow crumbled enough for a pair of ears and mismatched eyes to peer out. Giving her head a shake, the silverflame looked up at the figure showing her concern. It was odd for the once great dragon to have someone asking if she was okay, normally they ran screaming in terror or bowed their heads in reverence. A casual conversation was something she had dreamed of and hoped for throughout her long life. “I-I am very c-cold, warmblood,” she answered, teeth chattering. “I think… I do not like snow,” Endellion realised, giving her head another shake and climbing out of the snow pile. It was exciting to learn about herself and what she liked, but she wished it wasn't so uncomfortable.

Dragons loved heat so the cold was her natural enemy. Like a reptile seeking warmth she made a beeline for the warmblood and tried to press her side against his. Having lived a solitary life hundreds of years the silverflame was unaware that her behaviour might be considered disrespectful or rude. She did as dragons did which was whatever she pleased.

Endellion had much to learn about being a wolf. In ways she wasn't much different to a child, a big clumsy child that was full of ancient wisdom.
