Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Please listen to this song <3 I adore it (thank you Tazi <3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU1gU4T7o0c

Fare thee well; my own true love
Farewell for a while; I'm going away
But I'll be back; Though I go 10, 000 miles

The sand between her toes felt warm, still cooling from the day's sunlight. The sea breeze was gentle and calm, the scent of the ocean refreshing as it always was. The Saltwoods thrived in these newly shifted lands, and the Siren was proud because of it.

But something was missing. had it always been so? Some bigger piece of her life that she couldn't quite put her paw on. She tried, desperately, to no avail; it was as if some cruel god had torn that piece from her and locked it away behind a wall that she could not break down.

10, 000 miles; My own true love
10, 000 miles or more; The rocks may melt
And the seas may burn; If I should not return

Her happiness slipped away as she walked along her their? shores. Color leeched from the twilight that came with the sun's setting, and Esmerelda only wondered if she had done something to deserve such ire; why else would she be made to feel so incomplete? How could she redeem herself in the eyes of this god? Worse than that, had it been the Mother of the Sea that looked so poorly upon her?

Oh don't you see; That lonesome dove
Sitting on an ivy tree; She's weeping for
Her own true love; As I shall weep for mine

How long she had been standing, frozen upon the sand, the Siren could not say. She could only watch as the sun fell further and further below the ocean's waves. Something wet landed upon her paw; how fitting that it started to rain now, when this feeling consumed her? Perhaps it would rain through until morning, where she would awake alone in a den as she did every morning. Nothing changed, and yet it did.

Not a single cloud marred the beauty of the sunset before her, and yet still it rained, water falling to silvered toes and the sand around them.

Oh come ye back; My own true love
And stay a while with me; If I had a friend
All on this earth; You've been a friend to me

It took her too long to realize that it wasn't raining.

“lookin' fer me?”

A key twisted in the lock. Tear-stained face snapped to the side, eyes wide and glassy with emotion. A woman stood there, cloaked in the greys of the storms she knew so well, water dripping from soaked fur. It was obvious that she had swam far to get here, the way her muscles quivered but Esme could not have cared less.

The wall crumbled, revealing to her the sun to her moon, the shade to her sunlight. Memories cascaded upon her, movements jerky and sharp as she stumbled to her feet. She couldn't see past the tears, couldn't breathe past the silent sobs that constricted her throat.

her soul recognized the woman's and instantly painted her in all the colors that had slid away. her love, her life, her everything.

she couldn't ask everything she wondered, couldn't voice her disbelief.

she could only crash into her, tiny body pressing close until there was no space between them. only then did that first sob wrench itself free, giving way to all the ones that followed.

her sailor.

her wake.

She was here. She was finally here. Had her own goddess pulled them apart to see how they fared? Or had someone else pulled them apart and Mother Sea had locked away her memories to protect her? Did it matter?

How long had she been without her sailor? Did even that matter?

No. None of it did.

All that mattered was that Wake was here.

Through the tears, Esmeralda croaked out the only threat she would ever make towards her other half.

“If you leave again, I might strangle you.” A choked half sob, half laugh. “Please don’t leave me again.”

Oh, how she had missed this. This embrace, these kisses, the scent that wrapped around her so firmly. Eternally twined, this was where they both belonged, and never would Esmerelda let her go again. Ever again. Wherever Wake went, the Mystic would follow, and woe unto anything and anyone that would attempt to stop her.

“And I, my sailor,” She would murmur, eyes falling closed as she leaned into her chest, ear pressed tightly to listen to the same song that Wake sought in her own mottled silver chest. This was no hallucination, despite the misgivings that had still lingered in the back of her mind.

Minutes passed before she pulled away enough to look up at her lover, sniffling quietly. “I am glad you're home. Nothing felt right without you.”

Prettier words had never been spoken.

She rose from her crumpled position against the stormy grey fur, stretching her neck to first lay a gentle kiss on her cheek in return -- a promise that there was no change in her feelings for the woman that had returned to her.

“Come, my love. Let us go home, together.” For home would only ever be where Wake was, forevermore.
