Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

A servant at the ready, always.

When he wasn't at the Pharaoh's side, he kept himself busy with menial tasks.

On this eve, it was a grueling task. Hunters had returned, a camel in tow. It did not make for the best of furs, but he would make it work. For the divine needed better than soil to sleep upon in their new palace!

He worked meticulously, separating the skin and fur carefully from the flesh. It was tedious, but he didn't mind the distraction. Once the creature was properly skinned, he could split one task into two and set the fur aside to settle a bit before he washed it and preened the surface.

there was a hierarchy to this place. not out of the ordinary for wolves—his mother's pack had featured leaders and underlings, promotions, and such—but akashingo felt stricter even than that. princes and princesses by birthright, nobles—such as himself; and how had he managed that?

warriors. servants.

one of the latter crouched nearby now, working recent kills with his teeth to strip away pelts. curious, his head cocked, and he approached with a gentle chuff and smile for the fellahin.

“what are you doing?” he queried. “would you like some help?”

it looked like tedious work, after all, and two heads were better than one.

He'd been so damn distracted, he hadn't heard anyone enter.

The fellahin snapped his head up, eyes fixed on the individual who'd spoken. They were unfamiliar by name, but not sight.

“Oh, hello! I'm just prepping a camel carcass. The meat will act as super for the divine and nobles. And the fur, well, I'm not sure who it will go to. Whomever needs it most for their chambers, I imagine.” The man had also asked to help, but he was wary of how to approach his answer. He'd always been particular about his work. Having another assist may be too much for him to handle. So, like the coward he was, he chose to ignore it for now.

“i see,” aditya replied warmly, though it didn't escape his notice that the second of his queries had gone unanswered. his golden eyes slowly scanned the fellahin's handiwork, pelts carefully stripped, meat laid out in measured chunks.

“my name is aditya,” he went on, settling down upon his haunches. “i came here from the desert and was welcomed in by pharaoh toula, gods bless her.”

he cocked his head, curious. “have you been with akashingo long?” the young man asked. the other canid went about his duties in a manner suggesting much discipline and practice. adi wasn't much familiar with the practice of taking pelts for bedding, but he was more than willing to learn more about this intriguing tradition.
