Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

some minor blood mention <3

It burned.

The kiss of the sun.
Skin branded and glowing hot with its embrace.

Gods, it burned.

Consciousness came all at once; the slap of life to the whelp now choking on scarlet and sand. His body ached, fireworks exploding behind his eyes with a pounding in his head to match.

A splattering like great swathes of poppies pooling around his head—how long had he been unconscious? A swipe of his paw revealed the source of the marring—gore dripping from his nose, his ears, trickling in rivulets to encrust once feather-soft curls.

Delirious.
Reborn in that grit.

He did not know how long he walked, be it mere steps or many miles— only that eventually there was water and shade. And with a body that felt as though it crackled and smoked, he disturbed the crystalline surface, embosomed save for his head in the chill.

Never before had he been so grateful for water.
Even as the darkness claimed him once more.

a crocodile did not forget its time of dominance within water. nor did khusobek forget his role as guardian of his royals. where they labored he walked; where they rested he stood sentinel. and where fellahin wandered, mazoi followed. his eyes were upon machiavelli, who had been rather unlike himself.

"do you remember what last we spoke of?" asked the broad-shouldered brute asked as he came up near machiavelli and offered a smirk to the desert air.

the other was not well, submerged and silent. only so far might the crocodile's gaiety take him, thick limbs sliding him into the water as if he were his namesake. blood smeared the side of machiavelli's head and his own sound of concern was almost a growl. "you should see tavina. she came through this with herbs, somehow. somehow."

 and where still were they?

Thank you for joining <3

Blood gathered on the sun-scorched banks, seeping down into the spaces between grains—perhaps, the first brush of liquid the golden particles had ever felt. Next then, when the parched cracks were filled and could drink no more, it would run drop by drop to the water's edge. The bloom that unfurled there was imperfect, a trembling blush of pink against the glassy surface.

A voice. He could hear it faintly, as though someone called for him from some great distance.

When he tried to open his eyes to see who it was—or where he was, the pain was so sharp, so immediate that he could not. He drew his paws around his head with a flinch so violent it sent a splash through the water.

From beneath the trembling protection of his arms, he gathered the strength to try again. Slowly, the world bled into view—a kaleidoscope of shape and color so disjointed and blurred he may as well have been looking up from beneath the waves. One figure emerged from the mosaic, only slightly sharper than the rest: all ginger and clay and fire-like warmth against the blinding dunes. But it was the pops of icy blue that captured him, so stunning and unlike the rest that it was all that could be focused upon.

He mumbled something, a garbled fragment rasping from a throat that felt as though it had been crushed. The sound was indecipherable, a failed attempt at coherence. Another effort, just as incomprehensible. And then, at last, a single word slipped free, hoarse and broken yet unmistakable.

"Who?"
