the oasis was a revelation—truly a diamond in the rough terrain he'd traversed to get here. from the cooling shade of palms to the various freshwater streams and pools dotting the land, it was clear that this was a haven few wolves—few creatures, really—would be loath to depart.

and, of course, there was the matter of the kingdom setting up here. he'd pledged fealty for now—though perhaps things would change—mostly hoping to take advantage of the hospitality and environs.

but as he lapped at a pond, hidden among the tall grasses, something caught his eye amid the glorious sunset—

animals he'd never seen before, moving one by one across the sand, headed toward the largest watering hole. they reminded him of elk, or perhaps wild horses, but their elongated necks and humped backs set them apart from anything he'd ever known. 

chin dripping, adi rose from the pool's edge and watched them in a quiet reverie, entranced.

their lanky forms cast long shadows across the sand in the dying light;

this was magic. this place was magic.

There's new blood amongst their masses.

The medjay is intent upon learning their face; though the ruse of resting from duty is a fine one to enact upon to do such a thing. Mesen-ka always has duty.

Taking rest at the pool by the awestruck face of the young man, the sun burns their faces beyond the dark silhouettes of the traversing beasts beyond them. The guard's fur bloomed a gold at the edges of their warm tone tones. A small grin pulls his chapped lips. He knows there is great beauty in the oasis, and that Toula led them into a great heaven. "Are they not a wondrous site?"

 Nuri could be counted among those with long necks and humped backs, the way she arose, disarranged. Desperately she gave ground, blinking at the kohl smeared under her eyes and trying to wipe it away with the one paw that wasn’t steadying her.
 “What the fuck,” she blinked at the beasts gorging beside her, never recovering her balance. She must have been still drunk from last night, that was the only explanation.
 There’s a figure across the water— a man— no, two. She hastened over the sand, brushing out her fur with a shake of head, though she could hardly be bothered to coiff herself. “Excuse me, sirs? Do you know where we are?”

he was not alone for long. a mountain of a man joined him, expressing admiration for the creatures. aditya straightened hastily, recognizing the mazoi's seniority, and bowed his head in greeting.

“they are,” adi agreed, smiling. “i've never seen anything like—”

before he could wax poetic, a disheveled figure appeared. "what the fuck," he heard her say. his brow furrowed in confusion—where had she come from?—but apparently, she was just as puzzled as he.

“this is the land of akashingo,” he told her, and then turned to mesen-ka for further elaboration. he wasn't yet fit to explain the intricacies of their claim as of yet.
