She answered his query. But it was not one he wanted.

His brows drew down in a frown when she spoke in that same, foreign tongue. How could he help her now if she did not let him?

Sighing, he brushed it off, choosing not to pursue the topic further. Clearly, she hadn't wanted to share, or she would have.

“Fine, then.” Onto his next question. “Where do you intend to go from here?” Or would she stay? He hoped the latter, but he kept his wants to himself. It was not for him to decide in the end.

Where, she spoke as if she did not know. Or maybe she was asking him.

This was his chance, he thought.

Humming a low note, he nuzzled her cheek carefully, whispering words unto her ear. “You could stay here with me..” But did she even want to? Or did she want to find a diggerent place? Travel and see the great world beyond.

He shook his head with a soft chuckle. “Not here, sweet girl. In the oasis, just beyond. I serve a ruler. A pharoah. A goddess, they call her. She would welcome you, if I asked it.” Or so he hoped. Surely she would not deny another follower of their people.

“I am mazoi to them. A soldier.” He did not kniw what she would be made by the pharoah. But he didn't really not care, if it meant she could stay. He would look out for her. Protect her. And watch her blossom among his own kind, beneath his watchful eye.

“Trodaiche,” he repeated, testing the word on his tongue and taking it into account for what it meant.

When she asked—no, demanded—that he take her to the place he called home, he grinned. “Your wish is my command, little shadow.”

Rising and relinquishing his trapping hold, he turned, tail swaying in a beckoning her to follow. “It isn't far. Just a mile or so off.” And when she rose to join him, he would do just as he promised.
