 “Yuh hauhd to find, captain,” her curiosity snaked toward the soldier in his crimson coats. She’d had to track his steps quite a ways into the desert— a place where the sun seemed to bleach all into oblivion. The coyote had still done herself up in effeminate ways and could only hope perspiration wouldn’t cut runnels through the rouge on her cheeks. She’d perfumed herself with myrrh but the man’s scent emanate strongly into her nose.
 Dusky eyes examined his strong face. “Mind company?”

he had found large prints, feline but for blunt claws which extended from the round paw. it was not like anything he had seen before, and the captain would report it along his chain of command.

 beneath the hot eye of Ra, khusobek thrived. there was not yet any hard drink to be had, nor chambers for lounging; he lived hard and spent the hours in perimeter of their already expansive kingdom.

 on approach was a soft-figured thing; her scent greeted his nose as her pawsteps found his ears, and khusobek looked with open wonder on her perfection. "i would ask you to bring wine, but there is none." his grin was easy. "you are new to akashingo?"

 “Day three,” she grinned, “I’m Nuri. Fellahin.” He was appealing, unbearably, even— especially when the tugging lips were paired with ice-cold eyes in this heat. A rush of rich sensation tickled up her spine as he spoke, captivated all at once. She pads closer, delicate feet stepping into the feline tracks she hadn’t paid any attention to.
 “And yuh Khusobek: I saw yuh standing behind pharaoh at the meeting.” She blinked slowly up at the tall captain. He seemed like he could make anything happen— bad things, good things, things she’d never seen or thought of before. “What else pleases yuh palate? I’ll know what to bring with me for next time.”

 "three days to approach? you must be shy indeed," khusobek teased, comforted by the definition of their ranks and wherein he and she might fit. "i prefer a rough draught. ragged, enough to knock breath from my lungs." he wanted to look at her longer, see the dusklight eyes refined by their kohling, but held up a brawny arm instead to dissuade a further step.

 "look." chin jerked toward the marks in the sand, and he meant to guide her away from them — perhaps to his side.

 "i will preserve these for pharaoh. you may say where it was you lived before, if you wish," the crocodile invited, turning the icy burn of his stare out across the gilt horizon. forever it stretched in all directions. nuri's face was a sight more compelling.

 “Builds anticipation,” her teeth shone when she teased. She liked Khusobek immediately. He was forthright— and enormous, her eyes struck on the rounding muscles in his foreleg as he directed her off the cat-prints.
 “Oh— shit,” she gasps, inadvertently knocking into the captain’s side as she sidestepped. It was hot and Khusobek was no less searing, but his raw closeness inspired a wild greed in Nuri and she wove herself squarely beneath him so she was standing directly in his shade. Now if she arched her back or he shifted his hips they’d be in a compromising position.
 “Is that what yuh want to know? Wheuh I’m from?” Her nose tilted up. She could see the captain’s jowls. She got a salacious rush from his breath, tinted with his earlier meals. “Yuh smell good.”
