Naturally, it all sounded far easier than he knew it'd be. With the topography of this island there was a reason this was a "trial". It was going to be much harder than just "No talking, walk there and stack some rocks." They had to get to the trial grounds first, for example, and that meant a nice little swim to the site. Yuji's yellow eyes glanced toward his trial partner, making sure to stay observant should the scarred male need help for whatever reason. The man was very quiet — hadn't said a word during their instructing. That wasn't a bad thing; the scout preferred having a quiet companion to do this with rather than an unbearably outgoing one. He hadn't said much himself. Everything was straightforward enough that no questions needed to be asked. Instead he was simply eager to get going.
Funny, that.
Eager. After the despair he felt waking up here, it made him feel a little crazy to be eager about anything. It felt like it'd be more sane to just crawl into a hole and wallow. That would be easy enough. So much easier than this — not that he thought this too hard or anything. This was much better, though. Engage with his new pack, get involved, move
forward. This swim would likely be the easiest part. He was a fantastic swimmer due to having quite the craving for fish so he often found himself taking a dip when the hunger got too much and he wanted to quiet the pains in his stomach. Speaking of which, eating would have been a fantastic idea before setting out on this venture... that surely wouldn't come back to bite him in his already bitten ass.
Shortly after his trial mate made landfall, Yuji was crawling out of the water himself a respectful distance away. He quickly shook himself off, flinging water everywhere. He made eye contact with this silent companion and gave a nod as he followed suit to find a rock of his own. One that would stack simply enough. The thought occurred to him that stacking those rocks would be an annoying challenge had they more members of their group. He was thankful for it just being the pair of them.
The scarred black wolf nosed around patiently and somewhat obsessively. The shore was full of rocks; ones that were
okay, but he knew there'd be the kind of flat rock he was looking for if he looked hard enough. Plenty of these stones had been here long enough to be weathered to perfection by rain and waves. The clacking of turning over stones went on for a few minutes before he found his totem. It was then he paused before picking it up that he looked to @
Silence once more.
“I got your back,” he said assuredly, accompanied by another nod,
“Let's get this done.” He had an air of confidence about him. One that said "I won't fail, and neither will you." He didn't know this man but it didn't matter. They were clanmates and they would pass this trial together and come back proud of their success.
Going to put more effort in this time, huh? Going to earn it? Maybe it'll save you this time.
