Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Cool place. Dangerous, maybe, but cool nonetheless. Perfect for practicing traversing rough terrain and improving surefootedness, though he was sure Kei knew that much. He'd yet to be greeted by anyone else from the group, but from what his nose could pick up, there weren't that many of them there. Not that it was a problem - just an observation. Maybe they'd increase their numbers through recruiting, though they couldn't really afford to be too picky, now, could they?

Either way, Kentaro kinda liked it here. He hadn't seen much of it, but he doubted Kei would pick somewhere subpar to settle in.

It was a little strange that he hadn't been approached yet by anyone other than his cousin, he mused. Maybe they were all sneaking around, lurking in the shadows, observing him from a distance. Maybe they were nervous, wary, watchful of this new wolf? Kentaro couldn't really blame them for that. Maybe...

Oh. Here comes one, now.

Leisurely, like he had all the time in the world, the red male approached him. Even from a distance, Kentaro could see that he was a big guy, strong and impressive, but as he got closer... oh boy, did it just get hotter? Whether the stranger meant for his posture to be intimidating or not, Kentaro found himself ogling, warmth blooming on his cheeks and reaching up toward his ears. His tail wagged without his permission.

"The one and only," he confirmed, eyes flicking appreciatively over the stranger in a movement almost too quick to catch. A crooked smile, playful, crept across his muzzle. Good find, Kei. "I guess I was loud enough." He tipped his head to the side, eyes glimmering with interest and amusement. "Did you grovel your way in, too, or did she pick you for your good looks?"

There was a hint of ribbing, or something like it, in the larger man's tone, and Kentaro felt a little thrill go up his spine when he noticed the reciprocation there. Sure, maybe this guy wasn't attractive in a strictly conventional way, but Kentaro rather liked the uniqueness of his face and the way his markings stood out so starkly against one another.

'nough to echo.

"Good. That's what I was going for," he said, with no small amount of satisfaction. He quirked a brow at the next question, confused and amused both. "Only the ones I find nice to look at. Or if I'm trying not to get torn to bits," he told him, shrugging a shoulder. Let the stranger figure out which one he was.

No groveling on this man's part. Kei probably chose him for the muscle, and maybe because of the glint of something fun Kentaro had already picked out in his eye. His interest was piqued - in more than one way.

And he knew Kei's name. From his tone, more than just because he'd heard Kentaro yell it.

"Can't see the striking resemblance?" he hummed with a grin, as though the two of them looked exactly alike. "We're cousins. Grew up together." He wanted to tease that he was her favorite cousin, but could he really make that claim honestly anymore? They hadn't seen one another in years. The span of time stretched out like a physical distance.

Shaking his head once to rid it of the nagging thoughts, his smile brightened once more, attention now fully back on the stranger. "What can I call you?" he questioned then. Not his name, because Kenta didn't know how keen he was on sharing that just yet. Just a moniker to use in place of it.
